The SKF 634 single-row deep-groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 4 × 16 × 5 mm for precise shaft support in mechanical engineering and equipment manufacturing.
The 634 deep-groove ball bearing is a compact miniature rolling bearing for applications with limited installation space. With a bore of 4 mm, an outside diameter of 16 mm and a width of 5 mm, the design is primarily designed to accommodate radial forces and moderate axial loads. The rings and rolling elements are made of standard bearing steel 100Cr6. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along the raceways and ensures smooth running.
Design engineers primarily use this miniature bearing in compact mechanical assemblies and precision mechanical mountings. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance or ABEC 1), this design is suitable for standard industrial manufacturing requirements. The component covers an operating temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. As the cylindrical outer ring is manufactured without a groove or flange, the bearing seat can be flexibly fitted into smooth housing bores.
As an open variant, the bearing has no integrated cover or sealing washers. This design allows external lubricant, such as oil or grease, to circulate freely directly onto the contact surfaces. At the same time, the design requires a clean installation environment or external housing seals to prevent dirt particles and moisture from reaching the rolling elements. Manufacture with standard radial bearing clearance ensures a balanced clearance between the rolling elements and raceways at normal operating temperatures.
The main dimensions are 4 mm for the internal bore, 16 mm for the external diameter and 5 mm in width. This means the component belongs to the miniature ball bearing series and fits into precise housing recesses in compact machine components.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the balls and the raceways of both bearing rings when the bearing is unloaded. This design is suitable for standard fit conditions and operating temperatures where there is no need to compensate for thermal expansion or special preload.
Open roller bearings allow direct access for external lubricants, for example in an oil bath or with centralised lubrication. Furthermore, unlike contact-sealed variants, they do not generate any additional friction torque due to sealing lips, which minimises frictional resistance during operation.
Both the bearing rings and the balls are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel. This steel offers high strength and wear resistance. The balls are kept in place by a lightweight, dimensionally stable cage made of sheet steel.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. For operation within these limits, the grease or lubricating oil used must be suited to the specific temperature profile of the environment.
