The FAG NU2224 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 single-row cylindrical roller bearing offers high radial rigidity with dimensions of 120 x 215 x 58 mm.
The FAG NU2224 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing functions as a single-row non-locating bearing for industrial applications subject to high radial loads. The modified line contact between the rollers and raceways ensures even load distribution. The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from both sides. This design allows both rings to be fitted separately and compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing.
Design engineers primarily use this floating bearing for bearing arrangements subjected exclusively to radial forces. As the inner ring has no guide flanges, the roller bearing allows axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing in both directions. This prevents thermally induced stresses in the overall system. The bearing typically operates on the floating side in combination with a suitable fixed bearing, which provides axial guidance for the shaft.
The integrated polyamide cage (TVP2) guides the cylindrical rollers quietly and is characterised by its low weight. The elastic material properties of the cage dampen vibrations during operation. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) provides greater clearance between the rolling elements and raceways. This additional clearance compensates for operational heating or tight fits, ensuring the bearing rolls freely. The open bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The cylindrical roller bearing has a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width across flats of 58 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised specifications for metric roller bearings. The dimensional and running tolerances of the bearing comply with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 for standard applications in industrial engineering.
The NU design denotes a non-locating bearing in which the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed axially from either side. The bearing does not support any axial forces, but compensates for changes in the shaft’s length during operation with minimal friction.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard bearing clearance. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways prevents the bearing from seizing should excessive heating or tight fits cause radial expansion. The bearing therefore has greater radial clearance prior to installation.
The cage, designated TVP2, is made of polyamide and ensures the rollers run very smoothly. The material absorbs impact loads and is characterised by its low weight. The material limits the permissible temperature range of the bearing to between -30 and +120 degrees, which is suitable for many industrial lubricants.
As this bearing is designed as an open type without integrated sealing washers, housing designs must incorporate external seals such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals. Depending on the design, the bearing can be operated with grease or lubricating oil. The outer ring has no lubrication bore, so lubricants must be introduced into the roller set from the side.
The separable design simplifies the installation and maintenance of the bearing assembly. Fitters can mount the outer ring, together with the set of rollers, and the inner ring separately onto the shaft and housing. Furthermore, the flangeless raceway of the inner ring allows for free axial movement of the shaft relative to the bearing housing during operation.
