The FAG NU236 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 180 × 320 × 52 mm, withstands high radial loads and functions as a separable idler bearing.
The FAG NU236 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing for industrial applications involving high radial loads. With an inner diameter of 180 mm, an outer diameter of 320 mm and a width of 52 mm, this open bearing can withstand demanding mechanical stresses. The NU design is characterised by two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This enables the component to compensate for axial length changes in the shaft within the bearing with low friction.
This design is primarily used in industrial plant and heavy machinery. It fulfils its purpose wherever purely radial loads occur and thermal length changes in the shaft require a free-end bearing. As the inner ring can be removed from both sides, the separate installation of the shaft and housing is straightforward. In combination with a fixed bearing, this configuration provides a reliable bearing arrangement for large shaft diameters.
The suffix M1A denotes a solid brass cage with an external guide. This cage type is designed for severe vibrations and high dynamic forces. The increased radial clearance C3 provides additional radial play. This helps to prevent the rollers from jamming when temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings, or when tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. With a permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees, tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) is suitable for standardised industrial requirements.
The roller bearing has a bore of 180 mm, an outer diameter of 320 mm and a width of 52 mm. It is a single-row bearing with standard tolerances (tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1) without a seal, designed for installation in lubricated housings.
The NU design features solid flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. As a result, during thermal expansion, the shaft moves axially relative to the outer ring with minimal friction. The bearing accommodates radial forces only and helps to prevent axial stresses in the system.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and any constrictions caused by tight fits, ensuring that the rollers can roll freely even under thermal stress.
An externally mounted solid brass cage (M1A) is characterised by high mechanical strength and heat resistance. It guides the cylindrical rollers with precision and is specifically designed for applications involving high acceleration, vibration or shock loads.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees Celsius. In practice, the thermal operating limit is essentially determined by the stability of the bearing components and the lubricant used, which, in the case of open bearings, must be supplied externally via the housing.
As the bearing is of an open design and the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, lubrication is provided via the surrounding housing structure. Depending on the operating conditions and speed requirements, you can use lubricating greases or oils, which must be protected against the ingress of dirt.
