The FAG NU332 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing (160x340x68 mm) is a single-row idler bearing with a brass cage designed to accommodate heavy radial loads.
The NU332 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is an open rolling bearing manufactured by FAG for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, this design can accommodate very high radial loads. With a bore of 160 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 68 mm, the bearing is primarily used in applications subject to substantial radial loads.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is primarily suitable for designs in which axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing must be compensated for without constraint. As a classic floating bearing, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from both sides. This design compensates for thermal length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing. It also facilitates the separate installation of both bearing rings in housings that are difficult to access.
The brass cage guides the rolling elements precisely and withstands vibrations and dynamic acceleration forces. The increased C3 bearing clearance provides additional radial clearance. This clearance compensates for operational heating or tight fits without the rollers becoming stressed during operation. As the component is designed as an open bearing without seals, it is used in a lubricated system with an external housing seal.
The NU design denotes a pure thrust bearing. The outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. Consequently, axial movement is permitted between the shaft and the housing, and operational thermal expansion of the shaft is compensated for with minimal friction.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 160 mm, an outside diameter of 340 mm and a total width of 68 mm. These standardised key dimensions comply with tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance: PN / ABEC 1) and ensure a precise fit on the shaft and within the bearing housing.
The suffix C3 indicates a larger radial bearing clearance than the standard value. This increased bearing clearance prevents the bearing from being constricted too severely by interference fits during press-fitting or by temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. It ensures smooth running even under demanding thermal operating conditions.
The brass cage is characterised by its strength and resistance to lubricants. It provides stable guidance for the rollers and is suitable for operating conditions involving rapid changes in speed as well as severe shocks or vibrations, where mechanical stability of the guide is required.
The NU332 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. Within these limits, the metallic materials remain dimensionally stable. A prerequisite for safe operation is always the use of a lubricant that is suited to the machine’s specific operating temperature.
As the bearing is designed without integrated seals, the surrounding housing structure must provide protection against foreign particles and moisture. This is usually achieved by means of external shaft seals, labyrinth seals or housing covers, which also retain the selected lubricant, such as oil or rolling-bearing grease, within the system.
