Cylindrical Roller Bearings SKF NU316 ECM

The SKF NU316 ECM cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 80 × 170 × 39 mm and a brass cage, provides a robust free-running bearing solution for demanding shaft arrangements.

As a single-row cylindrical roller bearing, the NU316 ECM is designed for high radial loads. Thanks to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, the bearing can accommodate high radial forces. In the NU version, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. The bearing has no seals, allowing the lubricant to circulate freely within the housing.

What function does the NU316 ECM cylindrical roller bearing fulfil as a floating bearing?

The roller bearing serves primarily as a pure idler bearing to compensate for thermal length changes in the shaft. As the flangeless inner ring can be removed from both sides, the shaft can move axially relative to the housing. This design effectively prevents axial stress in the bearing system. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes, electric motors and machine components in which shafts with a diameter of 80 mm are mounted.

What technical characteristics do the cage and bearing rings offer?

The integrated brass cage guides the rollers stably even under thermal stress within a temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees. Furthermore, the separable design facilitates handling during assembly: the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately and then joined together. With standard radial bearing clearance, dimensional accuracy to Class P0 or ABEC 1, and running accuracy to P6 or ABEC 3, the component ensures precise concentricity.

What are the distinctive features of the NU316 ECM cylindrical roller bearing design?

In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from either side. As a result, the roller bearing functions purely as a non-locating bearing and compensates for axial changes in the shaft’s length directly within the bearing without any constraint.

What are the dimensions of the NU316 ECM cylindrical roller bearing?

The bearing has a bore diameter of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised specifications for single-row cylindrical roller bearings of this size.

What are the benefits of the integrated brass cage?

The brass cage offers high mechanical strength under dynamic loads and guides the rolling elements with precision. It is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +150 degrees and has proven its worth in demanding thermal environments.

What is the bearing clearance and tolerance class of the bearing?

The roller bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. In terms of tolerances, it offers dimensional accuracy to P0 or ABEC 1 and finer running accuracy to Class P6 or ABEC 3 for precise guidance requirements.

How is lubrication carried out in this open design?

Lubrication is provided via the surrounding machine housing using oil or grease, as no seals are fitted. As the outer ring is manufactured without a lubrication groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied from the side.

Why can the inner ring be removed from both sides?

The fact that it can be disassembled from both sides makes assembly and disassembly considerably easier. The flangeless inner ring can be fitted onto the shaft independently of the outer ring and the roller set, which allows for separate installation onto the housing and the shaft.
