The FAG NU311 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 55x120x29 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity as a free-running bearing with a brass cage.
The FAG NU311 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing for industrial applications involving high radial forces. With a bore of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm, this design can accommodate substantial loads. As the outer and inner rings can be fitted separately, the NU design facilitates installation where the shaft and housing fits are separate. The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The NU design is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements where thermal length changes in the shaft must be compensated for without axial forcing. As the inner ring can be removed from both sides, the shaft moves freely axially within the bearing, whilst the cylindrical rollers provide purely radial guidance. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and varying operating temperatures. The modular design facilitates assembly and maintenance with standardised mounting dimensions.
The solid brass cage gives the bearing resistance to vibrations and makes it suitable for demanding environmental conditions. At the same time, the slightly increased C3 radial clearance ensures that the rolling elements do not become jammed, even when the bearing heats up or in the case of tight fits. This open roller bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 °C and requires external sealing as well as a targeted supply of lubricant to the bearing location. During assembly, it is important that the mating surfaces on the shaft and housing are clean.
The roller bearing has a bore of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow for direct replacement in existing designs. As a single-row bearing, it guides the cylindrical rollers on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is designed to be removable from both sides.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges that guide the rollers and the cage, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to move relative to the roller set in both axial directions. The bearing compensates for changes in the length of rotating shafts without transferring axial loads to the raceways.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways prevents the bearing from becoming stressed when it heats up during operation or as a result of tight fits between the shaft and housing. This promotes consistent concentricity under thermal loads.
A brass cage is characterised by high mechanical strength and resistance to vibrations. It provides stable guidance for the rollers and is suitable for applications involving heavy shock loads or higher operating temperatures. In continuous industrial use, the material reduces wear between the rolling elements and the cage pockets.
As this bearing is of an open design with no integrated seals, the surrounding housing structure must incorporate external sealing elements to protect against dirt and moisture. Depending on the design, lubrication is provided by oil or grease within the specified operating temperature range of -30 to +150 °C.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard level of precision ensures reliable dimensional stability and precise concentricity for general mechanical and plant engineering, meaning that standard ISO tolerance ranges for shafts and housing bores can be used.
