The SKF NU309 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 45x100x25 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity as a non-locating bearing with increased C3 clearance.
The SKF NU309 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing, as a single-row rolling bearing, withstands high radial loads. With key dimensions of a 45 mm bore, 100 mm outer diameter and 25 mm width, the component is suitable for relevant industrial applications. The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing.
This cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used as a pure non-locating bearing to support heavy radial loads without axial guidance. As the inner ring can move axially relative to the outer ring, the bearing compensates for thermal length changes in the shaft without any constraint. Typical applications include bearing arrangements where, in addition to high radial loads, temperature-induced shaft expansion occurs, requiring axial displacement.
The suffix ECP denotes an optimised internal design in conjunction with a lightweight polyamide cage that guides the rollers. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This increased internal clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed if tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings occur during operation. The open bearing allows for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The dimensions are 45 mm for the internal diameter, 100 mm for the external diameter and 25 mm in width. These dimensions define the installation space on the shaft and within the housing. Due to its open design, the single-row bearing requires external sealing of the adjacent structure.
In the NU design, the fixed guide flanges are located on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides. This design simplifies installation considerably, as both rings can be pressed onto the shaft and housing separately.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased radial clearance between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways compensates for fit allowances and temperature-induced expansion during operation. As a result, the bearing clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from seizing under thermal loads.
The polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers with precision and is characterised by its low weight and the elastic properties of the material. The designation ECP also stands for an optimised internal geometry. The cage is designed for the bearing’s permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
This bearing accommodates radial loads only and acts as a floating bearing. As the inner ring has no flanges, the design allows the shaft to move freely axially within the outer ring. A separate fixed bearing must be provided in the bearing arrangement to accommodate axial forces.
The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0 or Standard (corresponding to ABEC 1). In terms of running accuracy, the bearing meets the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. This combination ensures consistent concentricity when fitted as standard into the surrounding components.
