The FAG NU240 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing, with a 200 mm bore and a robust brass cage, offers a robust solution for high radial forces.
The NU240 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing of the NU design. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, this open roller bearing can accommodate high radial loads. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements reliably under demanding operating conditions. As the bearing has no integrated seals, lubrication via the surrounding housing is required.
This rolling bearing is used in large industrial drives and heavy-duty shaft mountings where very high radial forces act on the bearing assembly. As the inner ring has no flanges, the component functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It compensates for axial changes in shaft length resulting from thermal expansion with low friction within the bearing. Typical areas of application include machine trains with long shafts and varying operating temperatures.
The design suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage designed to withstand high mechanical loads. Brass is a material that withstands severe vibrations, impacts and high acceleration forces. The NU design also allows the outer ring, together with the roller set, to be fitted separately from the inner ring onto the shaft and housing. This simplifies both installation and subsequent maintenance of the bearing assembly.
A single-row cylindrical roller bearing of the NU series has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. This design accommodates radial forces only and allows for axial compensation. The NU240 -E-M1 variant is fitted with a dimensionally stable brass cage and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 200 mm, an outside diameter of 360 mm and a width of 58 mm. It is manufactured to the ‘Normal’ tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1). The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a lubrication groove nor a lubrication bore.
As the inner ring has no guide flanges on either side, the cylindrical rollers can move freely in the axial direction along its raceway. Thermal linear expansion or manufacturing tolerances of the shaft therefore do not result in any harmful axial stresses within the bearing arrangement.
Open cylindrical roller bearings allow for flexible lubrication via oil circuits or housing grease fittings, as is common in large gearboxes. As no sliding sealing washers are fitted, the component operates with lower friction. In this design, protection against dirt and moisture is provided by external sealing elements on the machine housing.
The normal radial bearing clearance refers to the standardised radial clearance when the bearing is new, prior to installation. Once the bearing rings have been pressed onto the shaft and housing, this operating clearance is reduced slightly. This design complies with the standard specifications for normal operating conditions without excessive temperature differences.
The suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage. Brass is characterised by good run-on properties, high strength and resistance to lubricant additives. The cage guides the rollers under high inertial forces and vibrations, such as those encountered in heavy machinery manufacturing.
