The FAG NU2318 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 90x190x64 mm, with a brass cage and C3 clearance, offers high radial load-carrying capacity as a separable idler bearing.
The NU2318 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing designed for applications involving very high radial loads. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, this design can withstand high radial forces. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this version with the main dimensions of a 90 mm bore, 190 mm outer diameter and 64 mm width. The open bearing has no integrated seals and is lubricated via the housing design.
In shaft mountings, the NU design serves as a classic non-locating bearing. As the inner ring has no flanges and can be removed from either side, the bearing compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the roller set without any forced alignment. Designers make specific use of this property for long shafts or where significant heat is generated. Furthermore, the separable design facilitates the separate installation of the inner and outer rings in the housing and on the shaft.
The solid brass cage M1 guides the cylindrical rolling elements precisely and is suitable for demanding operating conditions involving vibrations or high acceleration forces. The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard clearance. This increased radial clearance counteracts bearing stress should significant temperature differences occur between the shaft and the housing, or where tight fits are specified. The component is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 64 mm. These dimensions define the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing bore. Manufacturing is carried out in accordance with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
In NU-type cylindrical roller bearings, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be displaced axially relative to the set of rollers. Changes in length resulting from thermal expansion are thus compensated for directly within the bearing, without any harmful axial constraint forces being generated.
Bearing clearance class C3 indicates a greater radial operating clearance than in the standard version. This is required where tight fits on the shaft and housing reduce the bearing clearance after installation, or where a significant temperature gradient occurs between the inner ring and the outer ring during operation.
The M1 brass cage is characterised by high strength and good guiding properties. It is particularly recommended for applications involving impact loads, severe vibrations or rapid changes in speed. Furthermore, brass is highly resistant to many industrial lubricants.
As this cylindrical roller bearing is supplied open without sealing washers and the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied from the side via the housing cavity. Depending on the design and rotational speed, the bearing can be operated with grease or oil, although external housing seals should prevent the ingress of dirt.
The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. Within this temperature range, the components retain their dimensional stability and the mechanical guiding properties of the brass cage remain fully intact. When designing the system, the thermal resistance of the lubricant used must be taken into account.
