The SKF NU2214 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing features a 70 mm bore, a 125 mm outer diameter and increased C3 clearance for demanding radial loads.
The NU2214 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from SKF, designed for high radial forces. With key dimensions of a 70 mm bore, 125 mm outer diameter and 31 mm width, the bearing transmits considerable forces thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways. The optimised internal design, combined with the lightweight polyamide cage, ensures smooth running. As an open bearing, the choice of lubricant can be flexibly adapted to the specific industrial application.
This roller bearing is typically used in bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces where axial length compensation is required. Due to its NU design, the unit functions purely as a non-locating bearing. The two fixed flanges on the outer ring guide the rollers, whilst the flangeless inner ring remains axially movable on both sides. The system therefore automatically compensates for changes in shaft length resulting from operational heating directly within the bearing. Furthermore, the separately mountable inner ring facilitates installation and removal in hard-to-access housings.
The combination of a polyamide cage and C3 radial clearance offers advantages at higher operating temperatures and under varying loads. The slightly increased C3 radial clearance prevents thermal expansion of the shaft or housing from unduly reducing the radial clearance. The elastic polyamide cage reduces moving masses and friction within the rolling element set. When designing the bearing, please note the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Dimensional accuracy to P0/ABEC 1 and the higher running accuracy to P6/ABEC 3 ensure precise guidance of the shaft.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. The design acts purely as a non-locating bearing and accommodates radial forces only. The bearing compensates for thermally induced length changes in the rotating shaft internally without inducing stress.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 70 mm, an outside diameter of 125 mm and a total width of 31 mm. It is a single-row roller bearing without a groove or lubrication bore in the outer ring. These standardised mounting dimensions allow for direct replacement in existing machine designs and bearing housings.
The designation ECP indicates an optimised internal design for increased load-carrying capacity, combined with a polyamide cage. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance set at the factory. This design prevents the rolling elements from jamming if temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation or if tight fits are used.
This bearing is designed for a specified temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The upper limit is largely determined by the integrated polyamide cage. At continuous operating temperatures within these limits, the material retains its strength and dimensional stability. To ensure safe operation, a suitable lubricant must be selected within this temperature range.
As an open bearing, the component has no integrated sealing washers. This design allows operators to use grease or lubricating oil according to the specific requirements of the plant. To protect the rolling element system from dirt, dust or moisture, the surrounding housing structure must be fitted with suitable external seals, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
The bearing combines two levels of precision: its dimensional accuracy corresponds to standard class P0 or PN (comparable to ABEC 1), which ensures standardised fit dimensions. The running accuracy is specified to the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. This combination promotes low-vibration operation and reduces radial runout errors during operation.
