The FAG NU220 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing withstands high radial loads and, as a non-locating bearing, compensates for axial changes in shaft length.
The NU220 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from FAG designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 100 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, this open bearing can handle high radial loads. The design achieves high radial stiffness through the line contact of the cylindrical rollers. The NU design is characterised by two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges and can be pulled out from both sides.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians specifically use this cylindrical roller bearing as a floating bearing. As the inner ring has no flanges, the shaft can move freely relative to the housing during thermal expansion. Typical applications are found in bearing arrangements where high radial forces must be accommodated whilst simultaneously withstanding axial length changes in the shaft. In combination with a fixed bearing on the opposite side, this results in a stable and reliable bearing arrangement in mechanical engineering.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial clearance compared with the standard range. This design prevents the rolling elements from jamming when temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation, or when tight fits reduce the bearing clearance. The TVP2 cage, made of polyamide, guides the cylindrical rollers quietly and is characterised by its low weight. The design is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, you should select the lubricant and the external housing seal to suit the operating environment.
The main dimensions are 100 mm internal diameter (bore), 180 mm external diameter and 34 mm width. This ensures that the single-row bearing can be fitted precisely into the designated housings and shaft seats, whether in new designs or during maintenance.
The NU design features two fixed guide flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. During operation, this design allows for axial movement of the shaft within the bearing, thereby compensating for thermal length changes without inducing stress.
A Class C3 radial bearing clearance is greater than the standard CN range. It is selected when tight fits on the shaft or housing reduce the bearing clearance after press-fitting. It also compensates for temperature differences between the rotating inner ring and the stationary outer ring, ensuring that the rolling elements always run with sufficient clearance.
The TVP2 cage is made of polyamide and is characterised by good damping properties and low inertia. As a result, the bearing often runs more quietly and with less vibration than metal cages. The material covers the bearing’s permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius during continuous operation.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated sealing washers and features neither a groove nor a lubrication bore in the outer ring. Depending on the application, the rolling bearing is lubricated via the housing design using a suitable lubricant. External sealing elements must be fitted to the housing to protect against contamination.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0, which corresponds to the standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1. This classification specifies the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances for industrial applications and ensures operation in accordance with standards in standard machine designs without any special precision requirements.
