The FAG nu220-e-m1-c3 cylindrical roller bearing withstands high radial loads and offers thermal stability thanks to its brass cage and increased bearing clearance.
The nu220-e-m1-c3 cylindrical roller bearing is a radial rolling bearing from FAG for demanding industrial applications. In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This design allows for unrestricted axial movement of the shaft relative to the housing. As an open rolling bearing without integrated sealing washers, the bearing is designed to be lubricated via the surrounding structure.
This bearing design is primarily used as a floating bearing arrangement under high radial loads to compensate for thermal length changes in the shaft. Typical applications are found in general mechanical and plant engineering for shaft mountings subject to purely radial loads. As the outer ring, together with the set of rollers, can be separated from the inner ring, the bearing can be fitted in stages even where space is limited. The cylindrical bore ensures a tight fit on cylindrical shaft journals.
The designation M1 indicates a robust, solid brass cage that precisely guides the cylindrical rollers. Brass cages are particularly recommended for applications involving severe vibrations, high accelerations and elevated operating temperatures. This design is complemented by bearing clearance class C3, which describes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This increased operating clearance compensates for dimensional changes caused by temperature variations or tight fits, thereby reducing the risk of the rolling elements becoming jammed.
This FAG roller bearing absorbs high radial forces and functions primarily as a non-locating bearing. Thanks to its flangeless inner ring, it compensates for axial changes in the shaft length within the bearing. The combination of a cylindrical bore, a brass cage and increased radial clearance ensures mechanical load-carrying capacity under demanding operating conditions.
The designation C3 indicates greater radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by heat build-up during operation. The increased bearing clearance also prevents stress concentrations if the inner or outer rings are fitted with a tight fit onto the shaft or into the housing.
The brass cage, designated M1, is characterised by high strength and good guiding properties. It maintains a uniform spacing between the cylindrical rolling elements and is suitable for applications involving heavy shock loads, vibrations and high speeds.
This bearing is specified to operate within a temperature range of -30 to +150 °C. Both the dimensional stability of the bearing components and the brass cage are suitable for this operating range. During design, it must be ensured that the selected lubricant maintains its viscosity within this temperature range.
As an open bearing without integrated grinding or cover discs, the lubricant reaches the raceways and rollers directly. It is suitable for either grease or oil lubrication. Protection against the ingress of dirt and loss of lubricant must be provided by seals in the surrounding housing structure.
The bearing has an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm. It has a cylindrical bore for direct mounting on suitable shafts. Thanks to its separable design, the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing.
