The FAG NU218 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 single-row cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 90 × 160 × 30 mm, accommodates high radial forces as a non-locating bearing.
The NU218 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is an open rolling bearing with a cylindrical bore. The NU design is characterised by two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate mounting of the inner and outer rings onto the housing and shaft. The design is intended to transmit high radial loads with the standard tolerance class P0/PN.
This idler bearing is designed to accommodate purely radial forces and compensates for axial changes in shaft length directly within the bearing without inducing stress. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering for shaft mountings subject to high radial loads. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design can withstand high radial loads. For axial guidance of the shaft, the floating bearing is usually combined with a separate fixed bearing.
The version with C3 bearing clearance has greater radial clearance than a bearing with standard clearance. This radial clearance serves to compensate for thermal expansion during operation or for radial constrictions caused by tight fits. The TVP2 polyamide cage guides the rollers quietly and reduces the weight of the moving parts. For operation, the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees must be observed. As there are no integrated seals, lubrication is provided via the surrounding housing structure.
The dimensions are 90 mm internal diameter, 160 mm external diameter and 30 mm width. These main dimensions determine the fit dimensions for the shaft and for the bearing housing of the connecting structure.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed retaining flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. Axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing is thus compensated for directly within the bearing without causing stress.
The designation C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance is useful when there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, or when tight fits cause the bearing rings to contract radially during assembly.
The TVP2 cage is made of polyamide and is characterised by its damping properties and low weight. The material limits the permissible operating temperature range of the bearing to between -30 and +120 degrees.
As an open roller bearing, this design has no integrated sealing washers and no lubrication bore in the outer ring. Lubrication and protection against ingress of particles must therefore be provided by the surrounding housing structure using external sealing elements.
The bearings are manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also classified as PN or ABEC 1). Dimensional and running tolerances are within the range of standard industrial norms for standard applications in mechanical engineering.
