The FAG NU217 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row idler bearing with a brass cage, C3 clearance and dimensions of 85 × 150 × 28 mm, designed for high radial loads.
The FAG NU217 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is designed as a single-row radial roller bearing for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, this roller bearing can withstand high radial loads. In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring remains flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which simplifies the assembly of the separate bearing rings.
This non-locating bearing is primarily suitable for shaft mountings where thermally induced changes in length must be compensated for without restriction. Thanks to the inner ring, which can slide on both sides, the design compensates for axial displacement directly within the rolling element set. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering for bearing arrangements subject to high radial loads and operating temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +150 °C. The solid brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers precisely under dynamic loads.
This design combines a solid brass cage with the increased radial clearance C3. This clearance provides additional radial play, ensuring the bearing rolls smoothly even under operational heating or tight shaft fits. The brass cage absorbs high guiding forces and is suitable for demanding vibration loads. As the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore and the component is of open design, the lubricant is supplied via the housing design.
With a bore of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, the bearing offers compact dimensions suitable for standardised housings. Before fitting, it is advisable to check that the bearing seat and housing bore are dimensionally accurate.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. The inner ring can therefore be pulled out axially on both sides. The bearing functions purely as a non-locating bearing, which means that axial shaft expansion within the bearing is compensated for with low friction, without supporting any axial forces.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial bearing clearance than in the standard version. This increased clearance between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways helps to prevent the bearing from becoming stressed due to temperature differences between the shaft and the housing. Even with tight fits, this ensures that the necessary operating clearance for trouble-free operation is maintained.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 °C to +150 °C. In addition to the materials used for the rings and the brass cage, the lubricant used and the seal at the bearing location are the main factors determining the thermal load capacity. For long-term operation at high temperatures, it is advisable to select a suitably formulated lubricant.
The M1 brass cage is of solid construction and is characterised by high mechanical strength. It is suitable for applications involving severe vibrations, varying speeds and high acceleration forces. Brass also offers favourable emergency running properties should there be a brief period of insufficient lubrication during operation.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, the component complies with the ABEC 1 standard. This classification defines the permissible dimensional and running tolerances for diameter and concentricity. In industrial applications, this level of precision ensures a precise fit when mounted on machined shafts and in housing bores in accordance with standard fits.
