The single-row cylindrical roller bearing NU211 -E-XL-K-TVP2-C3 from FAG, with dimensions of 55x100x21 mm, serves as a radial load-bearing idler bearing with a tapered bore.
The NU211 -E-XL-K-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings, as a single-row radial roller bearing, can withstand high radial loads. Thanks to the NU design, the unit functions purely as a non-locating bearing, with the inner ring being removable from both sides. Designs of this type compensate for axial changes in shaft length directly within the bearing without any forced alignment. Fitted with a polyamide cage and extended C3 radial clearance, this open bearing is suitable for industrial applications in a temperature range from –30 to +120 degrees.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used where high radial forces act on the bearing location and axial thermal expansion of the shaft must be compensated for. Typical applications are found in shaft mountings with rigid housings. Thanks to the removable inner ring, the bearing rings can be fitted one after the other when the assemblies are separate. The design as a non-locating bearing helps to prevent harmful axial stresses in the system, whilst the polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers securely.
The tapered bore with a 1:12 ratio allows for mounting directly onto tapered shaft seats or using suitable adapter sleeves. When fitted axially, the fit and operating clearance can be adjusted. The increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures between –30 and +120 degrees, as well as for the radial reduction in bearing clearance when the inner ring is pressed on. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, external seals and lubricants must be selected to suit the operating environment.
The bore is 55 mm, the external diameter is 100 mm and the width is 21 mm. The internal bore is tapered with a taper ratio of 1:12. With these dimensions to standard tolerance P0/PN, the unit can be fitted into standardised housing designs and mounted on suitable shafts.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges and can be removed from either side. As a result, the bearing accommodates radial loads only and allows the shaft to move axially within the housing without restriction. This feature also makes it easier to fit and remove both bearing rings separately.
The designation C3 indicates a greater radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the cylindrical rollers and the raceway prevents the bearing from seizing if the shaft heats up during operation or if pressing the bearing onto the tapered shaft seat causes the inner ring to expand elastically.
The polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight and elastic properties. The suffix TVP2 denotes this version, which guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
As the bearing is manufactured without integrated sealing washers and without a lubricant fill, it is supplied with grease or oil via the surrounding unit. To protect against contamination and moisture, you must incorporate external sealing elements, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals, into the surrounding structure.
The tapered bore with a 1:12 ratio allows installation on tapered shaft journals or mounting on cylindrical shafts using clamping or withdrawal sleeves. You can adjust the final radial preload and the remaining operating clearance on site during assembly by means of the axial sliding travel.
