The FAG NU208 -E-XL-K-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 40x80x18 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity as a separable loose bearing with a tapered bore.
The NU208 -E-XL-K-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this model in the NU design, in which the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, facilitating the separate assembly of the shaft and housing. The design enables low-friction compensation for axial shaft misalignment directly within the bearing.
This design serves as a non-locating bearing in applications where high radial forces are the primary load. Typical areas of application include industrial shaft mountings and general mechanical engineering. Due to the line contact of the cylindrical rolling elements, the component is specifically suited to purely radial loads. The polyamide cage guides the rolling elements precisely and keeps friction to a minimum during operation.
The designation ‘K’ indicates a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper, which is usually mounted on adapter sleeves or directly onto tapered shaft journals. By sliding the bearing onto the tapered seat, the bearing clearance can be adjusted during assembly. The slightly increased radial bearing clearance (C3) reduces the risk of the bearing seizing up due to heat build-up or an excessive fit. This open bearing has no sealing washers and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
The main dimensions are 40 mm internal diameter, 80 mm external diameter and 18 mm width. The bore is tapered with a taper ratio of 1:12, which allows the bearing clearance to be adjusted when mounted on a tapered shaft or collet.
The NU design denotes a thrust bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. The inner ring can be removed from either side, allowing both bearing rings to be fitted independently of one another. Furthermore, this design accommodates thermal length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing.
The suffix C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance that is slightly greater than the standard. When the tapered inner ring is pressed onto the shaft, it expands radially, thereby reducing the operating clearance. The C3 design helps to ensure that the bearing rotates freely even with press-fit installations or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The abbreviation TVP2 denotes a polyamide cage which is guided by the rolling elements. Polyamide cages are characterised by their elasticity and low weight. They ensure quiet operation and are designed for the specified temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
As an open cylindrical roller bearing without integrated seals, the bearing housing must be supplied with a suitable lubricating oil or rolling-element bearing grease, depending on the environmental requirements. To keep contaminants out and retain the lubricant within the bearing, external seals must be fitted to the surrounding housing structure.
The component complies with standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the international ABEC 1 classification. This standard tolerance meets the usual accuracy requirements in general mechanical engineering with regard to dimensional, form and running tolerances, and allows for reliable fit matching with the housing and shaft.
