The FAG NU208 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a separable non-locating bearing with a 40 mm bore, an 80 mm outer diameter and a width of 18 mm.
As a single-row radial roller bearing, the NU208 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing can accommodate high radial loads. In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides and fitted separately. FAG manufactures this version with a polyamide cage and with increased radial clearance (C3) in tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1).
This bearing is primarily used as a non-locating bearing in shaft mountings. As the inner ring has no flanges, the inner ring and roller set move axially relative to one another when the shaft undergoes thermal length changes. This prevents axial stress in the bearing arrangement. Due to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, the bearing can accommodate high radial loads; however, by design, it does not transmit any axial forces.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide cage, which ensures low-friction operation and keeps the weight of the rolling element set to a minimum. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees. The C3 clearance class has greater radial clearance than the standard version. This clearance compensates for fit allowances during installation as well as operational temperature differences between the shaft and housing, ensuring that the bearing remains smooth-running during operation.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm. Thanks to these standardised key dimensions, the roller bearing can be fitted into standardised housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats.
In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be withdrawn from either side. This facilitates the fitting of separate rings and allows for unimpeded axial compensation of thermal longitudinal expansion during operation.
The designation C3 indicates a radially increased bearing clearance compared with the standard CN version. This additional clearance serves as a reserve in cases where tight fits on the shaft or in the housing cause the rings to expand or contract. Smooth running is maintained even in the event of significant temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The designation TVP2 refers to a polyamide window cage. This material is characterised by low friction and low weight. For bearings with this polyamide cage, the permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
No, due to its design, a NU-type cylindrical roller bearing can only accommodate radial loads. As the inner ring does not provide a flanged contact surface for the ends of the rollers, the shaft slides freely under axial thrust. A separate fixed bearing must therefore be used to provide axial guidance.
This cylindrical roller bearing does not have integrated sealing washers. In open designs, protection against dust and moisture must be provided by the surrounding housing structure, for example by means of shaft seals or labyrinth seals. Furthermore, the open design requires an external lubricant supply, either grease or oil.
