The FAG NUP322 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 110 × 240 × 50 mm, serves as a robust fixed bearing for high radial loads.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing, the NUP322 -E-XL-M1-C3 from FAG, can withstand very high radial forces thanks to its cylindrical rollers. As an open design without a seal, the bearing is intended for operation with external lubrication. The NUP design is characterised by two fixed flanges on the outer ring, one fixed flange on the inner ring and a loose flange disc. As a result, the rolling bearing guides the shaft axially in both directions.
Design engineers primarily use this design where high radial forces are combined with axial fixation on both sides. The bearing guides shafts accurately in the axial direction and absorbs short-term axial forces. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes and drive systems. Thanks to its wide temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees, the bearing operates smoothly even under demanding thermal operating conditions.
This design features a solid brass cage that guides the rollers even during high acceleration or vibration. The increased C3 bearing clearance group offers more radial play compared to standard clearance. This helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed when operational heating or tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. To function correctly, the open bearing requires a clean installation environment and a suitable lubrication system.
With an internal diameter of 110 mm, an external diameter of 240 mm and a width of 50 mm, the bearing requires sufficient installation space on the shaft and housing. The outer ring has no lubrication groove, which is why the lubricant must be supplied via the surrounding structure.
A characteristic feature of the NUP design is the presence of two solid flanges on the outer ring and one solid flange and a separate flange disc on the inner ring. This design therefore functions as a fixed bearing, which supports radial loads and provides axial guidance for the shaft on both sides.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This serves to compensate for thermal expansion at higher operating temperatures and reduces the risk of radial stress in the case of tight fits on the shaft or housing.
A solid brass cage offers high mechanical stability and favourable guiding characteristics. It withstands mechanical loads and vibrations, supports low-vibration roller guidance and contributes to the reliability of the entire bearing assembly.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. As this is an open design without integrated mechanical seals, the actual operating limit depends largely on the lubricant used. The lubricant selected must cover this temperature range.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or standard tolerance (corresponding to ABEC 1), the unit complies with the usual dimensional and running accuracies in mechanical engineering. To ensure dimensional stability, the appropriate fit tolerances must be provided for the shaft and the housing bore.
