The FAG NUP308 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 40 × 90 × 23 mm, serves as a heavy-duty fixed bearing for combined radial and axial loads.
The NUP308 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with cylindrical rollers, designed primarily to accommodate high radial forces. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the bearing distributes mechanical loads evenly. This model is manufactured by FAG and has a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. It is operated as an open bearing without an integrated seal.
In bearing arrangements with high radial forces and a shaft supported at both ends, this design provides axial restraint. The NUP design features a fixed bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange and one loose flange disc on the inner ring. As a result, the rolling bearing absorbs axial forces in both directions and limits the axial play of the mounted shaft within the housing.
The lightweight polyamide window cage dampens running noise and reduces centrifugal forces that occur under dynamic loading. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for thermally induced dimensional changes within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. It also allows for tight fits without unduly restricting the radial operating clearance. The rolling bearing is manufactured to tolerance classes P0/PN or ABEC 1.
With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm, this design complies with the standardised dimensional series. The outer ring has neither a lubrication groove nor a lubrication bore. Thanks to its open design, the bearing can be integrated directly into shielded housing assemblies.
The NUP design denotes a fixed bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange and one loose flange disc on the inner ring. As a result, the rolling bearing can accommodate not only high radial forces but also axial guidance forces in both directions, thereby securing the axial position of the shaft.
Polyamide reduces the weight of the cage and dampens vibrations and running noise during operation. The rollers are guided within the cage and kept at a distance from one another. Polyamide offers favourable sliding properties at operating temperatures within the permissible specification.
Bearing clearance class C3 provides a slightly increased radial bearing clearance, which compensates for thermal expansion during operation. This prevents the rollers from becoming jammed between the inner and outer rings, particularly when a tight fit is specified for the shaft or housing bore.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The upper temperature limit is determined by the material of the polyamide cage. Lubricants used, such as greases or lubricating oils, must be suitable for this temperature range.
External seals in the surrounding housing are required, as the bearing is supplied ex works as an open component without its own sealing washers. Sealing elements such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth systems keep lubricants within the bearing chamber and protect against the ingress of dirt.
