The FAG NUP2218 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row fixed bearing with a 90 mm bore, designed for high radial loads and axial guidance on both sides.
As a single-row roller bearing, the NUP2218 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 can accommodate very high radial forces. Thanks to the NUP design, the bearing acts as a fixed bearing that guides shafts in both axial directions. This version features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, as well as one fixed flange and one loose flange disc on the inner ring. FAG manufactures this model as an open bearing for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers use this design when assemblies require precise axial positioning of the shaft under high radial loads. Typical applications include gearboxes and industrial drive units subject to combined loads. The line contact of the cylindrical rollers ensures high rigidity of the bearing arrangement. As the NUP design provides guidance in both axial directions, there is no need for an additional axial bearing on the shaft, which simplifies the design of the bearing arrangement.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a lightweight polyamide cage. This cage material is characterised by favourable damping properties and smooth running. The increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for operational temperature variations and tight fits between the shaft and housing without causing stress. Tolerance class P0 meets the standard accuracy requirements for fitted seats in mechanical engineering.
The dimensions are 90 mm bore diameter, 160 mm outside diameter and 40 mm width. These standardised dimensions allow for direct installation in appropriately sized bearing housings.
In a fixed bearing arrangement, the NUP design accommodates combined loads. Two fixed flanges on the outer ring guide the row of rollers laterally, whilst a fixed flange and a loose flange disc on the inner ring guide the shaft axially on both sides. This locks the axial position of the shaft in both directions.
The designation C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways prevents the bearing from seizing up should thermal expansion occur during operation or if tight fits are specified.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is primarily determined by the material of the polyamide cage and the dimensional stability of the rolling elements. A lubricant suitable for these temperatures is required to ensure trouble-free operation.
As there are no integrated seals, the bearing housing must be sealed against the surrounding casing. Depending on the speed and operating conditions, lubrication is provided either by grease or by circulating gearbox oil directly through the open end face.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide cage. This material absorbs shocks, reduces running noise and, due to its low weight, minimises the dynamic mass forces caused by changes in speed compared with solid metal cages.
