The NJ317 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing (85 × 180 × 41 mm) can accommodate high radial loads and serves as a support bearing with axial guidance on one side.
The FAG NJ317 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 41 mm, the component transmits very high radial forces. The line contact of the cylindrical rollers ensures high rigidity during operation. As an open design without an integrated seal, the bearing can be integrated directly into existing lubrication circuits.
This bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and with defined single-sided axial guidance. Due to the NJ design, the inner ring has a single flange, whilst the outer ring has two flanges. As a result, the unit acts as a support bearing: it absorbs radial forces and guides the shaft axially in one direction. In the opposite direction, the bearing allows for axial length changes in the shaft due to thermal expansion.
The brass cage (designation M1) guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and is suitable for high levels of vibration or rapid changes in speed. The design is complemented by the slightly increased radial clearance, C3. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways compensates for fit allowances and temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The component is designed for a temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to act as a support bearing that accommodates axial forces. On the other side, the inner ring remains removable, allowing the shaft to compensate for axial length changes without restriction.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 41 mm. It has a cylindrical bore and is designed as a single-row rolling bearing without a groove or lubrication hole in the outer ring. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The suffix M1 denotes a brass cage that guides the rollers and withstands mechanical stresses. The abbreviation C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard. This clearance prevents the bearing from seizing up during operation as a result of heat build-up or tight fits.
The cylindrical roller bearing is specified for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. As this is an open bearing without elastomeric seals, the actual operating limit depends primarily on the thermal stability and viscosity of the externally selected lubricant.
The open design, which does not require sealing washers, allows for flexible lubrication with grease or oil via the surrounding machine housing. Furthermore, the removable inner ring facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing. In this design, protection against contamination and moisture is provided by external sealing elements on the connecting components.
The inner ring of this cylindrical roller bearing is designed to be removable from one side. This feature makes it considerably easier to fit the bearing separately onto the shaft and into the housing. During final assembly, you can slide the assemblies together without causing any damage to the flanges or rolling elements.
