The SKF NJ307 ECP single-row cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 35x80x21 mm, can accommodate high radial loads and acts as a support bearing.
This SKF NJ307 ECP cylindrical roller bearing belongs to the range of single-row radial roller bearings and features an optimised internal design in the Explorer version. This open roller bearing has the following main dimensions: a bore diameter of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm. Thanks to the line contact between the roller bodies and raceways, the design can withstand considerable radial forces with normal radial clearance. It is primarily used in shaft mountings where dimensionally stable components with precise guidance are required.
Thanks to its NJ design, this model functions as a support bearing. In addition to the predominant radial forces, it also absorbs axial forces from one direction, as the inner ring has a fixed flange. At the same time, the inner ring remains removable from one side, which facilitates mechanical installation and any maintenance work. As the bearing is of an open design, the surrounding housing structure requires external sealing and a suitable lubrication supply via grease or oil within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The suffix ECP denotes a roller-guided polyamide cage combined with a reinforced internal geometry. This cage is characterised by its low weight, which reduces inertial forces during rapid changes in speed and minimises friction within the roller set. In conjunction with dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and improved running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3), this design ensures smooth guidance of the cylindrical rollers with minimal heat build-up.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 35 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm. These standardised dimensions facilitate direct replacement in existing assemblies. The outer ring has no lubrication groove, which means that the lubricant must be applied to the side of the bearing seat.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the roller bearing to act as a support bearing: it guides the shaft in an axial direction and compensates for changes in length in the opposite direction via the slidable, flangeless end of the inner ring. In addition, the inner ring can be removed for separate installation.
The polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers in a flexible and low-noise manner. Its low mass results in reduced centrifugal forces compared with solid metal cages. The cage ensures stable operation at continuous operating temperatures between –30 and +120 degrees, making it suitable for applications involving frequent acceleration phases or varying speeds.
This SKF bearing combines two levels of precision: its dimensional accuracy complies with the standard tolerance P0 (comparable to ABEC 1), whilst its running accuracy complies with the tighter tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3). This combination ensures low-vibration concentricity of the shaft whilst maintaining standardised mounting dimensions for the shaft and bearing housing.
As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, a lubricant supply is essential. You can use either grease or lubricating oil. The surrounding housing must also be fitted with suitable shaft seals or labyrinth seals to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt particles.
The Explorer version from SKF features a refined surface finish on the contact surfaces, as well as optimised roller and flange geometry. This enhancement reduces edge stresses under load and improves the formation of the lubricating film between the roller end faces and the guide flanges, thereby contributing to greater operational reliability.
