The FAG NJ307 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 35 × 80 × 21 mm, can accommodate high radial loads as well as unilateral axial forces.
The NJ307 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing from FAG designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design is capable of withstanding high radial forces. The NJ version features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring, making the bearing suitable for use as a support bearing. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, lubrication is provided by the surrounding system.
This design is used when a bearing arrangement is required to accommodate radial loads and to guide a shaft axially in one direction. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the shaft can be moved axially in one direction, whilst the opposite direction is supported by a positive fit. Typical applications include industrial drives and gearbox assemblies. The separable design also simplifies the separate installation of the inner and outer rings in the housing or on the shaft.
The designation M1A denotes a solid brass cage with an external guide, which guides the rollers with dimensional stability even under vibration and varying speeds. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This increased clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion or tight fit allowances between the shaft and housing, thereby preventing the bearing assembly from becoming stressed. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the component complies with the standard precision requirements for industrial use.
The bearing has a bore of 35 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm. The outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove or lubrication bore. Thanks to these standard dimensions, this design is suitable for standardised bearing seats in housings and on shafts.
A characteristic feature of the NJ design is the presence of two fixed shoulders on the outer ring and one fixed shoulder on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to function as a support bearing: it absorbs radial forces and unilateral axial forces. In the opposite direction, the inner ring – which can be removed from one side – allows for axial displacement.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways compensates for operational heating and tight fits. This helps to ensure smooth running without premature seizing.
The designation M1A refers to a solid brass cage that is guided on the outer ring flange. Solid brass cages provide mechanical stability under shock loads, vibrations and changes in rotational speed. Guidance via the flange surfaces reduces stress on the rollers and ensures precise guidance of the rolling elements.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the bearing rings and the brass cage is designed to withstand these temperatures. When designing the bearing assembly, the lubricant used must be suitable for the relevant temperature range.
As this cylindrical roller bearing does not have integrated sealing washers, it is designed for external lubrication systems using grease or oil. The lubricant reaches the raceways and the rolling element set directly. A suitable housing seal must be fitted to protect against dirt and moisture.
