Cylindrical Roller Bearings SKF NJ304 ECP/C3

SKF single-row cylindrical roller bearing NJ304 ECP/C3 with a 20 mm bore, polyamide cage and increased C3 clearance for radial guidance applications.

The SKF NJ304 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing combines an optimised internal design with high load-carrying capacity in a compact footprint. With dimensions of a 20 mm bore, 52 mm outer diameter and 15 mm width, this single-row roller bearing can withstand very high radial loads. As an open design without an integrated seal, the bearing operates directly within the lubrication circuit of your assembly. The NJ design acts as a support bearing, guiding the shaft in the axial direction whilst simultaneously compensating for thermal expansion.

For which operating conditions is the NJ304 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing suitable?

This support bearing is primarily used where heavy radial loads act on rotating shafts and axial guidance in one direction is required. Typical applications include bearing arrangements where thermal longitudinal expansion of the shaft must be accommodated. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the bearing rings are fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. This simplifies routine maintenance and inspections in industrial plants.

What are the advantages of a polyamide cage and C3 clearance?

The polyamide cage reduces the centrifugal forces acting on the rollers and promotes smooth, low-vibration operation within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The increased C3 radial clearance compensates for dimensional changes when temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during continuous operation, or when tight fits reduce the operating clearance. When designing the assembly, you should take the lubricant supply into account, as the outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove.

What characterises the NJ design in the NJ304 cylindrical roller bearing?

The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to function as a support bearing: it withstands high radial forces and guides the shaft in the axial direction. The inner ring can be pulled off to one side, which allows the inner and outer rings to be fitted separately.

What does the suffix ECP/C3 mean?

The designation ECP stands for an optimised internal design for improved load distribution, combined with a flexible polyamide cage. The abbreviation C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance. This additional clearance serves to compensate for thermal expansion during operation or for oversize in the case of tight shaft fits.

What are the dimensions of the NJ304 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing?

The bearing has an inner diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm. With these dimensions, the single-row cylindrical roller bearing fits into standardised housing bores and onto corresponding bearing seats. When installing, ensure that the axial contact surface for the flanged inner ring is clean.

What is the operating temperature range for the bearing?

The permissible operating temperature range for this cylindrical roller bearing is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. The limiting factor for the upper temperature limit is the material of the polyamide cage. To ensure stable operation within these limits, select the lubricant and lubrication intervals to suit the thermal conditions of the specific application.

What tolerance classes apply to the NJ304 ECP/C3?

The component combines dimensional accuracy of class P0 (or standard tolerance according to ABEC 1) with improved running accuracy of class P6 (or ABEC 3). This classification means that the mounting dimensions comply with the standard, whilst the run-out is subject to tighter tolerances. This promotes smooth running at higher shaft speeds.

How is the open cylindrical roller bearing lubricated?

As the bearing is manufactured without sealing washers or a lubrication bore in the outer ring, lubricating oil or grease is supplied via the surrounding machine housing. Lubricant reaches the roller assembly from the end face. External sealing elements, such as shaft seals in the adjacent structure, prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt.
