The FAG NJ224 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 120 × 215 × 40 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and axial support in one direction.
The NJ224 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing of the NJ type with the main dimensions: 120 mm bore, 215 mm outside diameter and 40 mm width. This design primarily accommodates high radial forces whilst also serving as a support bearing for axial loads from one direction. As an open design without an integrated seal, the bearing operates directly within the lubrication environment of your assembly. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), it is suitable for demanding industrial applications within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
This rolling bearing is used wherever heavy radial loads occur and the shaft must be axially fixed on one side. Thanks to the NJ design, which features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one flange on the inner ring, the assembly supports axial forces in one direction. Typical applications include industrial gearboxes and heavy-duty shaft mountings with single-sided guidance. At the same time, the design allows for axial displacement in the opposite direction, which compensates for temperature-induced linear expansion of shafts without restriction.
The suffix M1 denotes a brass cage, which guides the rollers precisely even under severe vibrations or jerky accelerations. Brass is characterised by high strength and good emergency running properties in the event of a lack of lubricant. The increased C3 clearance class ensures that the bearing remains free from seizing even in the event of operational heating or tight fits on the shaft and housing. Due to its open design, the unit is lubricated directly via the machine housing and sealed externally against environmental influences.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. These standardised key dimensions determine the fits on the shaft and in the housing. With its single-row roller guide, this component is particularly suitable for shaft bearings where installation space is severely limited whilst high radial load capacity is required.
The designation NJ refers to a cylindrical roller bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to function as a thrust bearing: it transmits axial forces in one direction, whilst axial displacement remains possible in the other direction. To simplify installation, the inner ring can be removed from the roller set on one side.
The C3 bearing has a greater radial operating clearance than the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for dimensional changes when the inner ring is expanded due to a tight press fit or becomes significantly warmer as a result of temperature differences between the shaft and the housing. This ensures that the rotational movement remains smooth even under thermal stress and helps to protect against premature wear.
The M1 brass cage guides the cylindrical rolling elements securely within their pockets and withstands even severe vibrations and dynamic accelerations. The solid brass material is characterised by high strength under mechanical stress. Furthermore, brass has favourable friction coefficients when in contact with the steel rollers, which enhances the stability of the entire bearing unit.
This bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. Within these limits, both the bearing steel and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability. As this is an open bearing without built-in sealing elements, the lubricant used (oil or grease) must also be suitable for the prevailing temperature within the unit.
The NJ224 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing has no integrated seals fitted at the factory and is designed as an open bearing. It is designed for installation in enclosed housings, where external seals such as shaft seals or labyrinth systems prevent the ingress of contaminants. Furthermore, the open design allows for direct lubrication via the machine’s central lubrication system.
