The FAG NJ2218 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 90x160x40 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and single-sided axial guidance.
The NJ2218 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, this design can withstand very high radial loads. In the NJ version, the bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This makes it suitable as a support bearing that guides shafts in one axial direction, whilst allowing axial displacement in the opposite direction.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used where heavy radial loads act on the shaft and, at the same time, defined axial guidance is required. Typical applications are found in industrial bearing arrangements subject to combined radial and axial forces. Thanks to its solid brass cage, the bearing can withstand even severe vibrations and high acceleration forces. The inner ring can be removed from one side, which facilitates the separate installation of the inner and outer rings in the housing or on the shaft.
The combination of the brass cage and the slightly increased radial clearance (C3) provides greater flexibility under demanding operating conditions. The increased clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by temperature differences between the shaft and the housing, as well as the radial oversize of tight fits. For operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees, this design therefore provides sufficient operating clearance. As an open bearing without an integrated seal, the component can be flexibly integrated into existing oil or grease lubrication systems.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 40 mm. It is a single-row cylindrical roller bearing of tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, without a groove or lubrication hole in the outer ring.
The NJ design denotes a thrust bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This design withstands axial forces in one direction, whilst allowing axial displacement of the shaft in the opposite direction. Furthermore, the inner ring can be removed from one side.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance serves to compensate for operational heating and to prevent the rollers from seizing up in the event of tight fits on the shaft or within the housing.
Brass gives the cage a high degree of stability and resistance to dynamic loads. A solid brass cage is well suited to applications involving severe vibrations, shocks or high acceleration forces, as it guides the rolling elements reliably even under difficult operating conditions.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the lubricant used in the surrounding structure must also be suitable for this temperature range.
As the bearing itself does not have any integrated cover or sealing washers, protection against dirt and moisture must be provided by the machine’s housing design. In practice, this is usually achieved using external shaft seals, labyrinth seals or housing covers.
