The NJ2216 ECP cylindrical roller bearing from SKF Rolling Bearings, with an 80 mm bore and a polyamide cage, provides a robust bearing solution for high radial loads.
As a single-row cylindrical roller bearing, the NJ2216 ECP can accommodate very high radial loads. Thanks to its cylindrical rolling elements, the design is suitable for withstanding high forces. In the Explorer version, this roller bearing features an optimised internal design that reduces friction and improves running characteristics. As an open component without an integrated seal, it is designed for operation in oil- or grease-lubricated systems.
This roller bearing is primarily used where heavy radial forces act on rotating shafts. The NJ design has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. As a result, the unit functions as a support bearing: it supports radial loads and guides the shaft in an axial direction. At the same time, the bearing compensates for axial length changes in the opposite direction without constraint, which helps to prevent stress build-up due to thermal expansion of the shaft.
The lightweight polyamide cage reduces the moving masses in the rolling element set. This promotes smooth running within the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the bearing rings can be fitted separately. This simplifies installation in cases of tight fits. With dimensional accuracy to P0/ABEC 1 and improved running accuracy to P6/ABEC 3, the bearing meets demanding requirements for concentricity.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a width of 33 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into the corresponding housing bores and onto suitable shaft seats.
The NJ design features a thrust bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one flange on the inner ring. The bearing withstands radial forces and guides the shaft axially in one direction. In the opposite direction, the design allows for axial displacement.
The polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers with precision and is characterised by its low weight. This choice of material dampens vibrations and reduces inertial forces during changes in rotational speed. The component is suitable for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
This model is an open bearing without its own sealing washers. Lubricants can circulate freely, but dirt particles must not be allowed to enter. For this reason, the design requires external sealing via the surrounding housing, for example by means of shaft seals.
Tolerance class P6, comparable to ABEC 3, specifies a tighter concentricity tolerance than the P0 standard. Dimensional accuracy remains the same as for the standard P0/ABEC 1 tolerance, whilst the rollers are guided more precisely. This ensures smoother running during operation.
The bearing has the standard radial clearance. This design clearance between the rollers and the raceways compensates for heat build-up during operation. It is suitable for standard applications where no increased bearing clearance is required.
