The SKF NJ2208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 40x80x23 mm, accommodates high radial forces as well as unilateral axial loads.
The SKF NJ2208 ECP single-row cylindrical roller bearing is designed for industrial applications where heavy radial loads act on the bearing assembly. Thanks to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, this roller bearing is characterised by a high radial load-carrying capacity. The NJ design functions as a support bearing: the inner ring has a single flange, whilst the outer ring has two flanges. This allows the shaft to be guided axially in one direction, whilst retaining axial displacement in the opposite direction.
This bearing design is used in shaft mountings where thermal linear expansion occurs or where axial guidance forces act in only one direction. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, installation in separate bearing seats is simplified. The open design without sealing washers is designed for lubrication systems provided by the surrounding structure and covers a temperature range from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The ECP designation stands for an optimised internal design combined with a lightweight polyamide cage. This cage reduces the weight of the rotating rolling element assembly and promotes low-vibration operation. As an SKF Explorer design, the bearing features a refined surface finish on the raceways. Furthermore, the tolerance class combines dimensional accuracy to P0 or ABEC 1 with increased running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3). The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for typical fit conditions and standard operating temperatures.
With a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 23 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions for single-row cylindrical roller bearings. Thanks to these defined dimensions, the bearing is suitable for standardised shafts and housing bores in industrial mechanical engineering.
As a support bearing, the NJ design features two fixed shoulders on the outer ring and one fixed shoulder on the inner ring. This design enables the bearing to accommodate both radial and axial forces in one direction. In the opposite direction, the bearing geometry allows for axial displacement to compensate for changes in the shaft’s length.
The inner ring, which can be removed from one side, makes assembly and maintenance work easier. The inner and outer rings can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. You then join the components together, which reduces the risk of them becoming misaligned and speeds up maintenance in confined spaces.
As an open design, the bearing has neither integrated seals nor a groove or lubrication bore on the outer ring. The bearing housing therefore requires external sealing to protect against contamination. Lubrication is provided by the surrounding lubricant in the machine assembly within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The bearing combines P0-class (ABEC 1) dimensional accuracy with finer P6-class (ABEC 3) running accuracy. Whilst the mounting dimensions adhere to standard tolerances, the P6 running accuracy contributes to more precise concentricity of the rings. This reduces vibrations and ensures smooth operation at high speeds.
The polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers with precision and is characterised by its low weight. The material dampens any vibrations that occur and ensures quiet operation of the roller row. The design is tailored to the bearing’s permissible operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
