The FAG NJ220 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with a 100 mm bore and an 180 mm outer diameter, can withstand high radial loads.
The NJ220 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing from FAG designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design can withstand high radial loads whilst maintaining high rigidity. The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to guide the shaft in the axial direction whilst permitting a defined amount of axial play in the opposite direction.
This bearing serves as a support bearing in shaft mountings where, in addition to primary radial loads, unilateral axial forces occur. The inner ring, which can be removed from one side, facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing. As the outer ring has no lubrication groove, the lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing structure. The open bearing allows for targeted lubrication with oil or grease.
The TVP2 polyamide cage guides the rollers quietly and reduces the weight of the rolling element set. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for thermal expansion caused by higher heat generation during operation. Together with the standard tolerance P0, the bearing covers an operating temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees, making it suitable for demanding thermal conditions.
The main dimensions are 100 mm internal diameter (bore), 180 mm external diameter and 34 mm width. These standardised dimensions allow for direct replacement in housings and shaft seats during repairs or new designs in mechanical engineering.
In the NJ design, the outer ring has two solid flanges, whilst the inner ring has one solid flange. This arrangement allows axial forces to be absorbed from one direction. In the opposite direction, the inner ring can move axially, which compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with standard clearance. This increased clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming stressed when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or when tight fits are specified on the shaft and housing.
The TVP2 cage is made of polyamide and is characterised by good damping properties and a low moment of inertia. Compared with heavy metal cages, the material reduces running noise during acceleration within the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
As this cylindrical roller bearing is designed as an open bearing without integrated sealing washers and the outer ring has no lubrication bore, the bearing housing requires external sealing. The supply of grease or lubricating oil must be provided via the housing cavity as part of the design.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (equivalent to PN and ABEC 1). This class provides a defined running accuracy and dimensional stability for cylindrical fits in general industrial applications and mechanical engineering.
