The FAG NU228 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 140 × 250 × 42 mm, is designed as a support bearing to accommodate high radial loads.
The FAG NU228 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing. With a bore of 140 mm, an outside diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm, the design can withstand high radial loads. In bearing arrangements with solid shafts, this design serves as a radial guide element. The open design without an integrated seal is intended for lubricant supply via the surrounding housing.
This floating bearing is suitable for mounting positions where thermally induced changes in the shaft’s length must be compensated for. As the inner ring has no flanges and can be removed from both sides, the shaft can move axially relative to the housing during operation. This design prevents axial stress when the bearing heats up and under high radial loads.
The brass cage keeps the cylindrical rollers at a distance from one another and withstands vibrations and shock loads during operation. In conjunction with the increased radial clearance C3, the operating clearance is maintained even when there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 °C and complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.
The main dimensions are 140 mm bore diameter, 250 mm outer diameter and 42 mm width. The bearing complies with the specifications for type NU228 in tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. Before installation, the shaft seat and housing bore must be adjusted to these nominal dimensions.
The designation NU refers to a single-row cylindrical roller bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. The bearing arrangement functions purely as a non-locating bearing. As the inner ring can be removed from both ends, the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately, whilst axial length compensation takes place during operation.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed if tight fits cause the inner ring to expand or if the shaft heats up during operation. This ensures that the required operating clearance is maintained.
The brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers evenly along the raceway and prevents the rolling elements from coming into contact with one another. The material is characterised by its dimensional stability under mechanical vibrations. The cage enables operation within the bearing temperature range of -30 to +150 °C.
As an open bearing, this design has no sealing washers and requires an external housing seal. As the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, lubricant – in the form of lubricating oil or grease – is supplied from the side via the housing cavity into the rolling element area.
The roller bearing is specified for a temperature range of -30 to +150 °C. The metal components and the brass cage are designed for this operating range. When specifying the bearing, a lubricant suitable for the operating temperature must be selected.
