The FAG N208 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 single-row cylindrical roller bearing, with a 40 mm bore, withstands high radial loads and serves as an axial non-locating bearing.
The FAG N208 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm, the design withstands high radial loads. The cylindrical rollers create line contact with the raceway, giving the bearing high radial rigidity. As the outer ring is flangeless on both sides, this open bearing functions purely as a non-locating bearing.
Design engineers specifically use this non-locating bearing where thermal effects cause the shaft to change in length. As the flangeless outer ring can slide axially relative to the inner ring, the bearing compensates for longitudinal expansion internally without any constraint. Typical applications include shaft mountings subject to high radial loads. Thanks to its open design without seals, the bearing is integrated directly into lubricated housings in which oil or grease circulates. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared to the standard value. This reserve helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed when operational heating or tight fits reduce the operating clearance. The TVP2 polyamide cage ensures smooth, low-friction operation. In addition, the separable N design facilitates installation in the housing: you remove the outer ring from both sides and mount the inner ring together with the roller set separately onto the shaft. The open bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and does not require lubrication holes in the outer ring.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm. These standardised dimensions comply with the specifications for single-row radial cylindrical roller bearings of this size. Owing to these dimensions, the component is suitable for compact housing designs that need to withstand high radial cutting forces.
In the N design, the inner ring guides the cylindrical rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the outer ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the outer ring to move axially on both sides. This design compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft inside the bearing without causing any stress, and without generating axial stresses in the drive train.
The designation C3 indicates a radially increased bearing clearance compared with the standard tolerance class. Additional clearance is beneficial when inner rings are mounted on shafts with a tight press fit, or when temperature differences between the outer and inner rings reduce the clearance during operation. This ensures that the rollers continue to run freely.
The TVP2 cage is made of polyamide and guides the cylindrical rollers precisely along the raceway. Compared with solid metal cages, this plastic cage reduces the total rotating mass and inertia. The material is characterised by good damping properties and helps to reduce running noise under dynamic loads.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. This range is primarily limited by the thermal operating range of the polyamide cage. As the bearing has an open design and no integrated seals, the specific thermal load capacity during operation also depends on the external lubricant selected.
As this component is manufactured without seals, a groove or a lubrication bore in the outer ring, lubrication is provided by the surrounding unit. You can operate the bearing either with lubricating oil in an oil bath or with a suitable rolling-element bearing grease. An external seal on the housing protects the raceways from dirt and moisture.
