The FAG NU2209 -E-XL-JP1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with main dimensions of 45 × 85 × 23 mm, accommodates high radial forces as a non-locating bearing.
The NU2209 -E-XL-JP1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG designed for high radial loads. Thanks to its cylindrical rollers, this bearing provides line contact with the raceway, ensuring high rigidity during operation. As an open design without an integrated seal, the component is designed for external lubrication systems. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration. The standardised tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 enables precise use in demanding shaft bearings in mechanical engineering.
This radial bearing is primarily used where high radial forces are present and axial displacement of the shaft must be compensated for. As a non-locating bearing, the NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to move freely axially relative to the outer ring without causing internal stresses. Typical applications include bearing arrangements where the shaft undergoes thermal linear expansion. The design is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
In the NU design, the inner ring can be removed from both sides, which simplifies the assembly of the shaft and housing. Both bearing rings can be fitted separately. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared to the standard range. This is advantageous when tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings reduce the operating clearance during operation. Before installation, the main dimensions – a 45 mm bore, an 85 mm outer diameter and a 23 mm width – must be taken into account for the respective bearing seat.
With an internal diameter of 45 mm, an external diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 23 mm, the bearing has standardised metric dimensions. These values form the basis for determining the fit on the shaft and in the bearing housing.
The NU design is characterised by two solid flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. As the inner ring can be removed from both sides, this design functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It accommodates radial loads only and allows for axial changes in the length of the shaft without inducing any forces within the roller set.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with standard clearance. This increased bearing clearance prevents the operating clearance from becoming too tight should thermal differences arise between the shaft and the housing during operation, or should tight press fits cause the inner ring to expand.
The JP1 stamped steel cage maintains a defined distance between the cylindrical rollers and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. This cage design is characterised by dimensional stability and low rotating mass, and is equally suitable for both grease and oil lubrication.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. Within these temperature limits, the bearing rings, rollers and steel cage retain their dimensional stability. When selecting a lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that it is approved for the relevant operating temperature.
As an open component without integrated seals, lubrication is provided via the surrounding housing structure. Depending on the speed and operating conditions, the bearing can be lubricated via grease fillings or an oil circuit. Suitable external housing seals protect the bearing seat from dirt and moisture.
