The SKF NUP208 ECP/C3 single-row cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 40x80x18 mm, serves as a fixed bearing for high radial loads and axial guidance on both sides.
The NUP208 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing features an optimised internal design and a lightweight polyamide cage. As an open, single-row rolling bearing, this component can accommodate very high radial forces. Thanks to the NUP design, which features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, a fixed inner ring flange and a loose flange disc, the construction guides the mounted shafts in both axial directions. SKF’s manufacturing process ensures dimensional accuracy to P0/PN (ABEC 1) and increased running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3).
Designs primarily utilise this version at bearing locations where high radial forces coincide with axial fixation on both sides. As cylindrical rollers provide line contact, the system stably absorbs high transverse forces. When used as a fixed bearing, the NUP design also handles the axial positioning of the shaft, thereby eliminating the need for a separate axial bearing at this point.
The suffixes denote specific product characteristics for demanding environmental conditions. The letter P in the ECP designation stands for a polyamide cage, which ensures low-friction operation and covers the permissible operating range from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard clearance. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways counteracts seizing if fit allowances or operational heating cause the inner ring to expand.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions of the NUP208 series. The outer ring has no lubrication groove or bore.
The NUP design functions as a fixed bearing. The outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has one fixed flange and one loose flange disc. Thanks to this design, the single-row bearing can withstand high radial loads whilst simultaneously guiding the shaft in both axial directions.
The letter combination ECP indicates an optimised internal design and a polyamide cage. The cage guides the cylindrical rolling elements with precision and keeps the bearing weight low. The optimised geometry improves load distribution along the line of contact between the rollers.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard CN version. This additional clearance is recommended for tighter fits or where there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, as the bearing clearance decreases during operation due to thermal expansion.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is primarily limited by the polyamide cage. To ensure reliable operation, the selected lubricant must also be approved for this temperature range.
As an open roller bearing, this design has no integrated seals. Before commissioning, it must be lubricated with a suitable oil or roller bearing grease, appropriate to the operating conditions. In addition, a suitable housing design protects the bearing from the ingress of dirt.
