The FAG NU310 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with a 50 mm bore, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and functions as a separable idler bearing in mechanical engineering.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing, the NU310 -E-XL-M1A-C3, is designed as an open roller bearing for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design can withstand high radial loads. With key dimensions of 50 mm inner diameter, 110 mm outer diameter and 27 mm width, the component complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. It is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
In rotating assemblies subject to high radial forces, the NU design typically functions as a pure idler bearing. As the inner ring is designed to be removable from both ends, the bearing compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the rolling element set. This feature helps to prevent axial stress caused by thermal expansion during operation. Furthermore, the separable design facilitates the separate installation of the inner and outer rings into the housing and shaft.
The -E-XL-M1A-C3 variant features a solid brass cage with an external guide, which retains its dimensional stability even under vibration or rapid changes in rotational speed. The increased radial bearing clearance (C3) compensates for thermal differentials between the shaft and housing, as well as fit oversizes, during operation. As an open bearing, the outer ring has neither a ring groove nor a lubrication bore. The bearing assembly is therefore integrated into an external oil or grease lubrication system, which also provides protection against contamination.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from either side. As a result, the bearing primarily accommodates radial loads and functions as a non-locating bearing. The system compensates for axial displacement of the shaft within the roller set.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 50 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 27 mm. It is a single-row cylindrical roller bearing in an open design without integrated sealing washers.
The designation M1A indicates a solid brass cage that is guided along the outer ring. This guidance ensures the cage retains its shape under vibrations, high accelerations and demanding thermal operating conditions.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. It prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed when tight fits cause the rings to expand or when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation.
The roller bearing is designed for ambient temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. In practice, the permissible range depends largely on the lubricant used, as the open bearing does not contain any lubricant of its own.
As the bearing is manufactured without factory-fitted seals and without a groove in the outer ring, lubrication is provided via the surrounding housing system. Depending on the operating conditions and speed, conventional oil circulation lubrication or temperature-resistant roller bearing greases are suitable.
