The FAG NU2205 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing (25x52x18 mm), as an open idler bearing, accommodates high radial loads with increased bearing clearance.
The FAG NU2205 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing designed for industrial applications involving high radial forces. Due to the line contact between the rolling elements, this design can transmit greater radial loads than a deep-groove ball bearing of the same dimensions. The inner ring can be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of the inner and outer rings. As a pure support bearing, this design compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing.
This cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements where the shaft is subject to thermal linear expansion and high radial loads. Typical applications include industrial shaft bearings where the design requires a defined free-end bearing function without axial load support.
As the inner ring has no flanges, the shaft can slide axially within the bearing. This prevents undesirable stresses in the bearing seat. At the same time, the cylindrical row of rollers absorbs high transverse forces.
The designation TVP2 stands for a polyamide cage, which, due to its low weight, reduces inertial forces and promotes smooth rolling of the rollers. The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This reserve is useful when tight fits cause the rings to expand or when temperature differences between the shaft and housing reduce the bearing clearance during operation. As an open rolling bearing, this design requires a lubricant and an external housing seal.
The roller bearing has a bore of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 18 mm. These standardised key dimensions correspond to the standard size series for cylindrical roller bearings of this size and determine the required installation space on the shaft and in the bearing housing.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed axially from either side. The bearing functions purely as a non-locating bearing and absorbs only radial forces, whilst axial movements are compensated for without stress within the bearing.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This is particularly advisable for press fits or operating conditions where there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The increased radial clearance helps to ensure that the bearing does not seize up, even when the rings expand due to heat, and continues to rotate smoothly.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide cage. This material is lightweight and elastic, which reduces inertial forces during rapid changes in speed. Furthermore, the material promotes smooth, quiet running. The cage guides the cylindrical rolling elements in an orderly manner between the flanges of the outer ring.
The operating range specified for this bearing is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. These limits are largely determined by the temperature resistance of the polyamide cage and the dimensional stability of the rolling elements and rings. This temperature range should also be taken into account when selecting the lubricant for the housing.
As this is an open design without integrated seals, sealing is provided by the surrounding housing structure. You can lubricate the bearing as required with grease or oil, depending on the operating conditions of the specific system. The lubricant protects the metal running surfaces from abrasion and corrosive influences.
