The FAG NU214 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 70 x 125 x 24 mm and featuring a brass cage, offers a robust free-running bearing solution for high radial loads.
The FAG NU214 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with a 70 mm bore, 125 mm outer diameter and 24 mm width. As it is designed as a loose bearing, the inner ring can be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing. Designed as an open bearing, it operates within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. Design engineers and maintenance technicians appreciate the combination of robust assembly guidance and the defined tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1) for demanding industrial applications.
This cylindrical roller bearing primarily absorbs high radial forces and compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering in shaft mountings where thermal expansion occurs. As the outer ring has fixed flanges and the inner ring is flangeless, the shaft can move freely relative to the housing. For designs with fixed axial guides, this non-locating bearing provides a reliable operational basis.
The integrated brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and withstands severe vibrations as well as high mechanical loads. In combination with the slightly increased radial clearance (C3), the bearing counteracts jamming should temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation or where tight fits are specified. As the bearing is of an open design, the bearing housing requires an external seal and a suitable lubricant to prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 70 mm, an outside diameter of 125 mm and a width of 24 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions for single-row cylindrical roller bearings of this size. Before installation, check the shaft seat and the housing bore to ensure that the rings fit precisely.
The designation NU refers to a cylindrical roller bearing whose outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides and moved axially. The bearing functions purely as a non-locating bearing and absorbs only radial forces, whilst axial shaft movements are compensated for with low friction.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional bearing clearance is recommended for applications involving high operating temperatures or tight fits. If the shaft and inner ring expand thermally during operation, sufficient operating clearance is maintained, which counteracts excessive preload and premature wear.
Compared with plastic or sheet metal cages, a brass cage offers high strength and thermal stability. It can withstand mechanical vibrations and fluctuating angular accelerations. Combined with its permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees, this type of cage is suitable for demanding industrial operating conditions.
As this bearing is manufactured without integrated seals, the surrounding structure must be protected against the ingress of dirt by means of external sealing rings. Lubrication can be carried out using either grease or oil, depending on the rotational speed and ambient temperature. Regular lubrication intervals help to keep friction to a minimum.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This standard tolerance meets the usual accuracy requirements in general mechanical engineering for cylindrical fits between shafts and housings. Higher precision classes are not usually required for standard applications.
