The FAG NU304 -E-XL-M1-C3 single-row cylindrical roller bearing, with a brass cage and C3 clearance, is suitable for high radial loads with dimensions of 20x52x15 mm.
The FAG NU304 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is an open, single-row roller bearing with a 20 mm bore, 52 mm outer diameter and 15 mm width. Due to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceway, this design can accommodate high radial forces. As a floating bearing of the NU design, the inner ring can be pulled out from either side, thereby allowing the shaft to expand and contract freely during operation. The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1).
Designs subject to purely radial loads and axial linear expansion benefit from the NU design. As the inner ring has no flanges, the shaft moves relative to the housing without axial stress. The bearing is used wherever high radial forces act within a confined installation space. Preferred applications include shaft mountings in industrial machinery, where the bearing position acts purely as a floating bearing and the fixed bearing is located elsewhere.
The solid brass cage guides the rollers precisely even under vibration and withstands mechanical loads. Furthermore, this design covers a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The designation C3 stands for increased radial bearing clearance. This additional clearance between the rollers and the raceway accommodates thermal expansion caused by temperature differences between the shaft and the housing, as well as fit allowances during press-fitting, to prevent the bearing from seizing during operation.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides and fitted separately. During operation, this geometry allows for axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing. The bearing thus acts purely as a non-locating bearing and absorbs only radial forces.
The cylindrical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm. With these dimensions, it is one of the standard sizes used in industrial machinery design. The outer ring and roller set form a single unit, whilst the inner ring can be handled separately for assembly purposes.
The suffix C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance above the standard value. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways prevents the bearing from seizing up when high operating temperatures or tight fits on the shaft and housing reduce the radial clearance. C3 is particularly recommended in cases of rapid heating during continuous operation.
The brass cage, designated M1, offers high strength and good guiding properties for the cylindrical rollers. Compared with standard cages, solid brass withstands thermal and dynamic stresses. It ensures smooth running under shock loads or vibrations and supports the bearing’s permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
As the bearing has no integrated seals, external protection against dirt and moisture is required within the surrounding housing structure. Depending on the application, lubrication is carried out using oil or grease. As the outer ring has neither lubrication grooves nor bore holes, the lubricant is fed directly into the inner area from the side.
The FAG cylindrical roller bearing is specified for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. Thanks to the robust brass cage and the increased clearance (C3), the bearing remains fully functional even under fluctuating thermal conditions. When designing the bearing arrangement, the lubricant used must be selected to suit these operating temperatures.
