The SKF NU2226 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with a polyamide cage, designed for high radial loads with a shaft diameter of 130 mm.
As a single-row cylindrical roller bearing, the SKF NU2226 ECP can accommodate very high radial forces. With dimensions of 130 mm bore, 230 mm outer diameter and 64 mm width, this design offers a high radial load capacity. In the Explorer version, the bearing features an optimised internal design. The inner ring can be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of the inner and outer rings.
This cylindrical roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements that must accommodate heavy radial loads and compensate for changes in shaft length. The NU design functions purely as a non-locating bearing: the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the flangeless inner ring allows axial displacement of the shaft within the bearing without restriction. It is primarily used in industrial drives and heavy machinery bearings subject to high transverse forces.
The suffix ‘ECP’ denotes a lightweight polyamide cage, which keeps friction to a minimum and enhances acceleration performance. The permissible operating temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Dimensional accuracy complies with Class P0 or ABEC 1, whilst running accuracy is manufactured to P6 or ABEC 3. As the outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore, lubrication and sealing are provided by the surrounding housing structure.
The SKF version has a cylindrical bore of 130 mm, an outer diameter of 230 mm and a width of 64 mm. The bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and an inner ring that can be removed from either side. It is also fitted with a polyamide cage and forms part of the Explorer range, which features an optimised internal design.
In the NU design, the inner ring can be withdrawn from both ends. As a result, the bearing absorbs only radial forces, whilst thermal length changes in the shaft are compensated for axially within the rolling element set. This design principle prevents axial stresses in the bearing system.
The normal radial bearing clearance corresponds to the standard operating clearance for cylindrical roller bearings. With standard fit selections for the shaft and housing, and at normal operating temperatures, it ensures smooth running without the rolling elements becoming unduly jammed.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The limiting factor for the maximum operating temperature is the material of the polyamide cage. When designing the system, the choice of lubricant and the ambient conditions must be tailored to this temperature range.
As the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, grease or oil is supplied via the bearing end faces. As the bearing is supplied open from the factory, external housing seals keep dirt and moisture out of the bearing interior.
