The FAG NJ2238 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with a 190 mm bore and a brass cage, offers a robust solution for radial loads.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing, model NJ2238 -E-XL-M1-C3 from FAG, is designed to accommodate high radial forces. Thanks to its dimensions – an inner diameter of 190 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 92 mm – the bearing can accommodate substantial radial loads. The open design without a seal is suitable for oil- or grease-lubricated bearing arrangements. The brass cage keeps the rolling elements in order during operation, whilst the design, in accordance with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, supports standardised mounting conditions.
As a support bearing of the NJ design, the roller bearing absorbs radial forces and axial guidance forces from one direction. The inner ring is removable from one side, which facilitates the separate assembly of the inner and outer rings. This design also allows for axial displacement in the opposite direction. It is primarily used where thermal length changes in the shaft must be compensated for by the design.
The version with the C3 suffix has increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance compensates for operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, as well as press fits, to prevent the rollers from seizing. The brass cage provides strength against vibrations and impact loads. With a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees, the bearing is designed for a wide range of operating conditions.
The NJ design has two solid flanges on the outer ring and one solid flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to support the shaft in the axial direction. Furthermore, the inner ring can be removed completely to facilitate installation.
The bearing has a bore of 190 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 92 mm. These key dimensions determine the installation space required on the shaft and within the housing.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial clearance than in the standard version. It serves to compensate for thermal expansion at higher operating temperatures or dimensional contraction caused by tight-fitting seats.
The open bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. In addition to the bearing material, the actual operating limits are determined primarily by the lubricant selected and the external seal.
As this is an open bearing with no seals and no lubrication groove or lubrication bore in the outer ring, grease or lubricating oil is supplied via the housing design. This requires an external housing seal to prevent the ingress of dirt.
The brass cage is characterised by its high mechanical strength. It guides the cylindrical rollers securely and is designed to withstand loads caused by vibrations and impact forces.
