The FAG NU326 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 130 × 280 × 58 mm, is an open idler bearing designed to withstand high radial loads.
The NU326 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing for industrial applications with demanding load profiles. The bearing is manufactured by FAG Wälzlager and features a solid brass cage that precisely guides the cylindrical rollers. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design can withstand high radial forces. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, lubrication is provided flexibly via the surrounding housing structure.
Design engineers primarily use this cylindrical roller bearing where high radial loads occur and shaft expansion needs to be compensated for. The NU design functions purely as a non-locating bearing: the outer ring has fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the shaft to move axially within the bearing without restriction in the event of thermal length changes. This design is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and requiring axial movement, operating at temperatures between –30 and +150 degrees.
The brass cage is characterised by high strength, which is advantageous in the event of shock loads or vibrations. As the inner ring can be removed from both sides, the separate installation of the inner and outer rings saves time. The bearings are manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 with standard radial clearance. Due to its design, the bearing does not accommodate axial forces and requires an external housing seal to prevent the ingress of contaminants.
With a bore diameter of 130 mm, an outside diameter of 280 mm and a width of 58 mm, the cylindrical roller bearing fits into standardised housing bores. These key dimensions define the installation space required on shafts and enable the precise replacement of roller bearings of the same design.
In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. This feature enables axial movement of the shaft within the bearing and simplifies the separate installation of both bearing rings.
The brass cage keeps the cylindrical rollers at a uniform distance apart and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. Compared with sheet metal cages, solid brass offers greater mechanical strength, dampens vibrations and is suitable for applications involving heavy impact loads and higher operating temperatures.
The specified operating temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees. Within these limits, the bearing rings and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability. In practice, the range that can actually be used also depends on the lubricant selected.
The component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance and to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard tolerance is sufficient for the majority of general mechanical engineering applications where standard fit conditions apply to the shaft and housing.
As the bearing does not have its own sealing washers fitted at the factory, protection against dust, swarf and moisture must be provided by the surrounding housing structure. This is usually achieved by means of external radial shaft seals, labyrinth seals or housing covers, which also retain the lubricant within the bearing chamber.
