The FAG NJ228 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 140 x 250 x 42 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and axial guidance thanks to its brass cage.
The NJ228 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG designed for heavy-duty industrial applications. It has a bore of 140 mm, an outside diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm. Designed as an open bearing, it can be integrated directly into existing lubrication systems. The version with a brass cage ensures precise guidance of the cylindrical rollers, even under demanding operating conditions.
This cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements where high radial forces must be accommodated. Thanks to the NJ design, the unit functions as a support bearing: the inner ring has a fixed flange, which allows axial forces to be accommodated in one direction. At the same time, the design compensates for thermal length changes in the shaft in the opposite direction without constraint, thereby preventing stress build-up in the shaft assembly.
The combination of a solid brass cage and increased C3 radial clearance is designed for bearing arrangements subject to thermal and mechanical stresses. The brass cage withstands impact loads and high acceleration forces. The C3 bearing clearance compensates for temperature-induced expansion within an operating range of -30 to +150 degrees. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the separate assembly of both bearing rings is particularly cost-effective and easy to handle.
This cylindrical roller bearing has an inside diameter of 140 mm, an outside diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised main dimensions of the NJ228 series and offer a high degree of interchangeability in industrial assemblies.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to act as a thrust bearing, which locks the shaft in one axial direction whilst still permitting axial movement in the opposite direction. Furthermore, the inner ring can be removed for installation.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This serves to compensate for thermal expansion at higher operating temperatures or with tighter fits, without unduly reducing the bearing clearance and increasing friction.
The bearing is designed for continuous operation between -30 and +150 degrees. The integrated brass cage retains its dimensional stability throughout this entire temperature range, making this design suitable even for more thermally demanding operating conditions.
As the bearing is designed without integrated sealing washers and the outer ring has no lubrication groove, lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing structure. Depending on the speed and design of the system, you can use lubricating oil or grease.
This version is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC Class 1 in the US. This standard accuracy class is suitable for the vast majority of industrial machinery applications and helps to ensure reproducible fit conditions.
