The SKF NU2215 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 75x130x31 mm, is designed as a separable idler bearing for high radial loads.
This single-row NU2215 ECP cylindrical roller bearing from SKF, as an open rolling bearing, accommodates purely radial forces. The design complies with the SKF Explorer performance class and features an optimised internal design. As the outer ring has solid flanges and the inner ring is flangeless, the bearing compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing with low friction. It is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Typical applications include rotating machinery subject to significant radial loads, where thermal length changes in the shaft must be accommodated. The NU design is specifically used at the free end of shaft support arrangements. If temperature differences and thermal expansion occur during operation, the flangeless inner ring shifts axially relative to the roller set in the outer ring. This prevents harmful axial stresses in the entire bearing assembly and relieves the fixed end.
The inner ring, which can be removed from both sides, makes assembly and disassembly considerably easier, as both rings can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. The suffix ECP denotes the combination of optimised internal geometry and a polyamide cage. This cage guides the rollers quietly whilst being lightweight. Thanks to the standard radial clearance and the increased running accuracy to P6 or ABEC 3, the roller bearing runs smoothly and with low vibration.
The bearing has a bore of 75 mm, an outer diameter of 130 mm and a width across flats of 31 mm. These standardised mounting dimensions allow for replacement during repairs or new designs. When designing the housing, please note that the outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore.
The designation NU refers to a radial bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. The inner ring can be pulled out axially in either direction. As a result, the bearing does not absorb any axial forces, but acts purely as a non-locating bearing that compensates for changes in the shaft’s length.
The letter P in the suffix stands for a polyamide cage. This cage material offers the advantages of low mass, good damping properties and quiet running of the rolling elements. It is designed for the specified temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius and is compatible with standard mineral-based lubricants.
The bearing has a combined tolerance class: the dimensional accuracy complies with standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1, whilst the running accuracy complies with the finer class P6 or ABEC 3. This classification ensures dimensionally accurate bearing seats whilst simultaneously reducing runout error during operation.
As an open cylindrical roller bearing, this component has no integrated sealing washers. This design allows external grease or lubricating oil to circulate freely through the rows of rollers. Protection against contamination and moisture is provided by the surrounding housing structure, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
Standard radial bearing clearance (often referred to as CN) describes the standard radial clearance between the rollers and raceways when the bearing is in its unassembled state. This radial operating clearance is designed so that, after the rings have been pressed on using standard fits, there is still sufficient clearance to prevent seizing during operation.
