The FAG NU224 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with a 120 mm bore, acts as a floating bearing to absorb high radial forces and compensate for changes in length.
The NU224 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for industrial applications subject to high radial loads. With dimensions of 120 mm bore diameter, 215 mm outer diameter and 40 mm width, this design is particularly suitable for shaft guides that need to accommodate operational thermal expansion. The open bearing, which has no seal, features an outer ring without a lubrication groove and complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
Due to its design as a floating bearing, the inner ring can be removed from both sides, thereby allowing axial displacements of the shaft relative to the housing to be compensated for freely within the bearing. The cylindrical rollers transmit high radial forces through their line contact. Typical areas of application include industrial applications subject to high radial loads, where axial guidance is provided separately by a fixed bearing.
The TVP2 design features a polyamide cage, which ensures quiet operation and keeps the weight of the rotating components low. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees. The increased radial clearance (C3) provides additional radial play between the rollers and raceways. This helps to prevent the rolling bearing from becoming stressed should thermal expansion or tight fits occur on the shaft and housing during operation.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 120 mm, an external diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into housing bores and onto cylindrical shaft seats of the corresponding size series.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be withdrawn from either side. The bearing acts purely as a non-locating bearing and compensates for axial length changes in the rotating shaft without constraint within the rolling element set.
The designation C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance that is slightly greater than standard. It is recommended where the operating clearance is reduced due to tight fits between the rings or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. This ensures that the smooth rolling motion is maintained even under thermal stress.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide window cage. This material is characterised by good damping properties and low inertia. It ensures smooth running of the cylindrical rollers within the permissible operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
As the bearing is of open design and has neither cover plates nor sealing discs, it requires a lubricant supply to be provided on site via the surrounding housing structure. Depending on the operating conditions and speed, the bearing can be operated with grease or lubricating oil, although external seals should be fitted to prevent the ingress of particles.
This cylindrical roller bearing complies with the dimensional and running tolerances of tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to class ABEC 1 in the Anglo-American region. It therefore offers the standard precision customary in general mechanical and plant engineering for reliable shaft mountings.
