The SKF NJ217 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 85x150x28 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and acts as a support bearing thanks to its flanged inner ring.
The NJ217 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, this bearing can withstand particularly high radial loads. In SKF’s Explorer design, the open bearing features an optimised internal design that ensures smooth running. The design has no lubrication channel on the outer ring and therefore requires an external lubricant supply within the bearing housing.
This design is primarily used in bearing arrangements where high radial forces act on the shaft. As a support bearing, it accommodates radial loads as well as axial guiding forces in one direction. In the opposite direction, the design allows for axial displacement, which compensates for temperature-induced changes in the length of the shaft within the housing. However, this bearing type is not designed for purely axial continuous loads.
The polyamide cage reduces the component weight and ensures quiet running within the permissible temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees. The inner ring is removable from one side, which facilitates the separate assembly of the inner and outer rings. In terms of tolerance class, this design combines dimensional accuracy to P0 or ABEC 1 with increased running accuracy to P6 or ABEC 3, which contributes to smooth shaft guidance.
With two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring, the bearing acts as a thrust bearing capable of guiding shafts in an axial direction. The shaft remains free to move in the opposite direction, thereby compensating for thermal expansion without causing mechanical stress in the bearing housing.
With a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions for single-row cylindrical roller bearings in this series. When designing the surrounding structure, the mating surfaces on the shaft and housing should be adapted to these nominal dimensions.
The cage material, polyamide, is characterised by low friction and low weight. It guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and ensures smooth running. The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. For applications above this temperature limit, variants with metal cages should be considered.
This specification combines two levels of accuracy: the dimensional accuracy complies with the standard tolerance P0 (ABEC 1), whilst the radial and axial running accuracy meets the tighter tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3). This combination ensures a cost-effective fit whilst maintaining precise concentricity during operation.
As this open bearing is manufactured without integrated seals and without a lubrication groove on the outer ring, grease or lubricating oil is supplied via the surrounding housing. An external housing seal protects the roller raceways against the ingress of dust, dirt particles or moisture from the operating environment.
Defined as ‘normal clearance’, this bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the rollers and raceways when the bearing is cold and unmounted. It is suitable for conventional fits and moderate operating temperatures. However, if significant temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation, increased bearing clearance, such as C3, prevents the rolling elements from seizing.
