The FAG NJ308 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 40x90x23 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and acts as a support bearing with an axial guidance function.
The FAG NJ308 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing for industrial applications. The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This design enables the bearing to accommodate not only radial forces but also unilateral axial forces. The solid brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers stably under mechanical loads. With dimensions of a 40 mm bore, 90 mm outer diameter and 23 mm width, this open bearing is designed for external lubrication systems.
Design engineers primarily use this design where high radial loads are present and shafts need to be supported in the axial direction. Typical applications can be found in industrial bearing arrangements and in general mechanical engineering. The inner ring, which can be removed from one side, allows the assembly to be fitted separately, which facilitates maintenance during operation. Thanks to its permissible temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees, the bearing is also designed for thermally demanding environments.
The combination of the M1 brass cage and the increased radial clearance (C3) offers functional benefits during operation. A brass cage is characterised by its dimensional stability under impact loads, vibrations and acceleration forces. The C3 clearance class provides additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways. This compensates for operational heating or tight fits and helps to prevent mechanical stress. The component complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and has an outer ring without a lubrication groove.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm, the cylindrical roller bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. As a result, the component fits precisely into prepared housing and shaft seats and supports standardised bearing arrangements in mechanical engineering.
The NJ type features two fixed shoulders on the outer ring and one fixed shoulder on the inner ring. This arrangement allows axial displacement of the shaft in one direction, whilst forces from the opposite direction are supported by a positive fit. The inner ring can be removed from one side to facilitate assembly.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways prevents the bearing from seizing up should temperature differences occur during operation or should tight fits on the shaft and housing reduce the radial clearance.
The designation M1 refers to a solid brass cage. This type of cage offers high strength, good sliding properties and a robust structure that withstands mechanical shocks. The brass version is particularly suitable for applications involving dynamic vibrations or thermally demanding conditions.
As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, lubrication is provided by external grease or oil lubrication systems. The outer ring is manufactured without a lubrication bore. A suitable housing seal is required to keep out dirt and prevent lubricant loss.
The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. Within these limits, the rings and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability. In practice, it is primarily the thermal stability of the lubricant used that determines the actual usable operating limits.
