FAG single-row cylindrical roller bearing NU224 -E-XL-M1-C3 with a 120 mm bore, brass cage and increased C3 bearing clearance for demanding free-running applications.
The FAG NU224 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is designed as a single-row radial roller bearing to accommodate high radial loads. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, the design can withstand considerable transverse forces whilst maintaining high radial rigidity. The open design allows for flexible lubrication via the surrounding machine system and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
In industrial powertrains, this rolling bearing primarily functions as a non-locating bearing. As the inner ring has no flanges and can be removed from both sides, the bearing compensates for axial length changes of the shaft relative to the housing without constraint within the bearing. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering for shaft mountings subject to high radial loads. This design is particularly suitable for applications where thermal expansion of the shaft must be accommodated.
The solid brass cage (designation M1) is characterised by high strength and dimensional stability, enabling it to withstand dynamic forces and vibrations. The version with C3 bearing clearance offers increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance counteracts the straining of the rolling elements when heat builds up during operation or when tight fits on the shaft and housing reduce the bearing clearance once the bearing is installed.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from either side. As a result, the bearing accommodates radial forces only and allows for axial displacement of the shaft directly between the rollers and the inner ring.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. The outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove or lubrication bore.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard range. This variant is selected to prevent the rollers from seizing up due to operational heating or tight fits on the shaft.
The M1 cage is made of brass and maintains the rollers at a specified distance. The material is characterised by its high strength and is suitable for applications involving dynamic loads or vibrations, helping to ensure the stable operation of the roller rows.
This open cylindrical roller bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The actual operating temperature limit also depends on the lubricant selected and the housing seals of the surrounding structure.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard tolerance fully meets the standard requirements for dimensional and concentricity accuracy in general mechanical and plant engineering.
