The FAG NUP2218 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row fixed bearing with a 90 mm bore, designed for high radial loads.
As a single-row radial roller bearing, the FAG NUP2218 -E-XL-TVP2 absorbs high radial forces and supports shafts axially in both directions. With main dimensions of 90 × 160 × 40 mm, this open bearing without a seal is used in conventional mechanical engineering and in industrial gearboxes. An integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low friction and quietly. The component is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 with standard radial clearance.
This cylindrical roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial loads, where the shaft must also be axially fixed. Due to its NUP design, the component acts as a fixed bearing and supports axial forces reciprocally via the fixed flange of the outer ring and the loose flange disc of the inner ring.
Design engineers typically use this design in gearbox construction and in drive systems with combined loads. As the outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing or a separate lubrication system.
The combination of the NUP design and the polyamide cage ensures precise guidance of the cylindrical rollers whilst maintaining low mass inertia. The TVP2 plastic cage reduces friction losses and operating noise within the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
When designing the application, it must be borne in mind that this is an open bearing without a seal. Operation requires an external housing seal as well as lubrication with oil or grease. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for standard fits and operating conditions.
The NUP design features a fixed bearing that accommodates axial forces in both directions. The outer ring has two solid flanges, whilst the inner ring has one solid flange and one loose flange disc. As a result, the rolling bearing guides the shaft axially with precision within the housing and is suitable for alternating axial loads whilst simultaneously withstanding high radial loads.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 40 mm. These dimensions correspond to standardised series for cylindrical roller bearings. The outer ring has a smooth cylindrical finish; in other words, it has neither a circumferential groove nor lubrication holes for external lubricant supply directly via the outer ring.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide window cage which guides the rolling elements and keeps them at a distance. A plastic cage reduces the weight of the bearing and minimises friction within it, enabling quiet operation. The cage material limits the bearing’s operating temperature to a range of -30 to +120 degrees.
This bearing has the standard radial bearing clearance. This refers to the internal radial clearance of the cylindrical rollers between the inner and outer rings when the bearing is unloaded and in its installed state. This clearance is designed for standard fits on the shaft and housing, as well as for normal operating temperatures where no increased thermal expansion of the shaft needs to be compensated for.
As the bearing is an open component with no integrated sliding or lip seals, the rollers and raceways are exposed. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles, dust or moisture and to avoid lubricant loss, the surrounding housing structure must be sealed with suitable seals such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1 in the international classification system. This standard tolerance defines precise limit dimensions for bore, external and width dimensions, as well as concentricity, and meets the usual accuracy requirements for industrial drives and mechanical gearbox designs.
