The SKF NJ324 ECJ cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row support bearing measuring 120 × 260 × 55 mm, designed for high radial loads and single-sided axial guidance.
The SKF NJ324 ECJ cylindrical roller bearing supports shafts with a diameter of 120 mm under high radial forces. As an NJ-type support bearing, this roller bearing features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one flange on the inner ring. This design enables the bearing to accommodate not only high radial loads but also axial forces from one direction. The inner ring can be removed from one side, which facilitates the separate installation of the inner and outer rings in the housing.
This rolling bearing primarily withstands very high radial forces and guides the shaft axially in one direction. The NJ support bearing design allows axial thermal expansion of the shaft in the opposite direction to be compensated for without constraint. The Explorer version, with its optimised internal design, is designed to withstand demanding mechanical loads during continuous operation.
The sheet steel cage, identified by the suffix ECJ, guides the rollers and withstands operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The bearing combines standard dimensional accuracy to P0 or ABEC 1 with higher running accuracy to class P6 (ABEC 3). This tighter running tolerance reduces radial runout errors during operation. Due to the open design without an integrated seal, sealing is achieved via the housing environment, combined with an external supply of lubricating oil or grease.
With a bore diameter of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 260 mm and a width of 55 mm, the roller bearing complies with standardised dimensions. These dimensions allow it to be fitted onto corresponding shaft seats and into housing bores of the same nominal size. The outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove, which means that the lubricant supply must be taken into account in the design.
In the NJ design, the bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This design functions as a support bearing that accommodates radial loads and unilateral axial forces, whilst allowing axial displacement in the opposite direction. The inner ring can be removed from one side for separate installation.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage retains its dimensional stability throughout this entire temperature range. When designing the bearing assembly, you must ensure that the lubricant used and any external seals are also suitable for the relevant operating temperature.
The dimensional accuracy of the mounting dimensions complies with standard class P0 (ABEC 1), which allows for installation using standard fits. For concentricity, the tighter tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3) applies. As a result, the cylindrical roller bearing achieves greater concentricity precision, which reduces vibrations and operating noise when the shaft is in motion.
Without integrated sealing elements, the bearing housing requires external seals, such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals, to prevent the ingress of contaminants. Depending on the system requirements, lubrication is provided by oil circulation, an oil bath or a suitable greasing system via the housing.
SKF Explorer features an optimised internal design with modified transitions at the raceways and rollers. This modification improves stress distribution under load and helps to reduce friction. The suffix ECJ also indicates the roller-guided design of the stamped steel cage.
