The FAG NJ209 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 45x85x19 mm, accommodates high radial loads as well as unilateral axial loads.
The single-row cylindrical roller bearing NJ209 -E-XL-M1-C3 from FAG is designed as a support bearing for radial loads. Due to the NJ design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has one fixed flange and is removable on one side. This design guides the shaft axially in one direction and allows for axial displacement in the opposite direction. With key dimensions of a 45 mm bore, 85 mm outer diameter and 19 mm width, this version complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
This design is used where bearing arrangements are subjected to high radial forces whilst simultaneously requiring axial guidance in one direction. Typical applications include shaft mountings with single-sided guidance. As the outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove or bore, the lubricant is supplied via the housing design. The roller geometry is designed for dynamic loads, such as those encountered in continuous operation in mechanical engineering.
The designation M1 stands for a brass cage that guides the cylindrical rolling elements and is designed for demanding thermal and dynamic operating conditions. The increased radial clearance C3 compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and housing, ensuring that the rollers run freely even in the event of temperature differences. At operating temperatures between –30 and +150 degrees, the open roller bearing retains its dimensional stability.
The main dimensions are 45 mm for the internal diameter (bore), 85 mm for the external diameter and 19 mm for the overall width. The single-row roller bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. It is suitable for standardised bearing seats that require high radial load-carrying capacities with a compact radial height.
In the NJ version, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has only one flange. As a result, the component acts as a support bearing: it guides the shaft in one axial direction and allows axial displacement in the opposite direction. Furthermore, the inner ring can be removed from one side to simplify installation.
C3 bearing clearance refers to a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version when the bearing is unmounted. It helps to prevent stress build-up during operation if the shaft expands more than the surrounding housing due to operating heat, or if tight fits reduce the radial clearance. This promotes low-vibration operation.
The brass cage is characterised by high strength, low wear and resistance to vibrations. It guides the cylindrical rollers precisely along the raceway and is designed for demanding dynamic conditions.
As an open design, the bearing has no integrated sealing washers and features an outer ring without a groove or lubrication bore. Lubrication is provided by the surrounding machinery system, for example via an oil bath, circulating lubrication or a separate grease fill. Seals on the housing side must prevent the ingress of dirt particles and moisture from the outside.
The permissible operating range extends from -30 to +150 degrees. Within this temperature range, the metal bearing rings, the brass cage and the rolling elements retain their dimensional stability. The actual operating limit is determined by the thermal stability of the lubricant selected by the user.
