The FAG 20318 -MB spherical roller bearing, with dimensions of 90 × 190 × 43 mm, provides robust support for high radial loads in the presence of slight misalignments.
The FAG 20318 -MB spherical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with spherical rollers and a cylindrical bore. The design automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing. Designed as an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into existing lubrication systems. Maintenance engineers and designers appreciate the standardised dimensions – a 90 mm bore, 190 mm outer diameter and 43 mm width – which facilitate straightforward replacement in industrial drive systems.
This bearing is particularly suitable for heavy machinery subjected to high radial loads, where shaft deflection or misalignment may occur. Typical applications include industrial bearing arrangements subject to shock loads and elastic shaft deflection. Thanks to the spherical roller design, the barrel bearing distributes the forces evenly across the raceway. Even with slight misalignments, the design reduces edge stresses and thus supports uniform concentricity during demanding continuous operation.
The suffix ‘-MB’ denotes a solid brass cage that guides the barrel rollers. This design withstands vibrations and shock loads. Furthermore, the brass construction supports the permissible operating temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees Celsius. For engineers involved in planning, this means that in harsh conditions, with unstable drives or under thermal stress, the brass cage provides high mechanical stability for the internal guide.
A spherical roller bearing of this design combines high radial load-carrying capacity with the ability to accommodate angular misalignment. It features a series of spherical rollers that move within a raceway on the outer ring ground to a hollow-spherical profile. This enables the bearing to compensate for shaft misalignment without causing excessive friction or harmful edge stresses.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised industrial dimensions for this size. Before fitting, you should ensure that the existing shaft seat and the housing bore are precisely matched to these dimensions.
This model is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as ‘CN’ in standards. The bearing clearance describes the radial play of the rollers between the rings when the bearing is unmounted. The standard version is suitable for conventional fit selections and standard operating temperatures in most industrial applications.
As an open bearing, the product does not have any integrated sealing washers. You must ensure lubrication via the housing design using grease or lubricating oil. It is also important to protect the bearing location from the ingress of dust, dirt and moisture using external seals such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
The component is approved for use within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The built-in brass cage and the dimensional stability of the rings ensure reliable operation within this temperature range. When designing the bearing assembly, the lubricant used must also be suitable for the respective ambient temperatures.
This specification defines the standard dimensional and running accuracy in accordance with current rolling bearing standards. P0 denotes the standard tolerance according to ISO or DIN, whilst ABEC 1 represents the corresponding classification in the US system. This tolerance class fully meets the requirements of general mechanical engineering.
